We found shockingly cheap tickets to see Thom Yorke and The Smile on tour

Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood performed with their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Radiohead steadily from 1985 through 2021.Sure, there were a few side projects here and there — who can forget Yorke’s work with Atoms for Peace or Greenwood’s menacing “There Will Be Blood score — but it seemed like a good bet they’d always return to the band that made their name.Things changed in 2022 when the pair joined forces with drummer Tom Skinner to form The Smile.A slick record called “A Light For Attracting Attention” and a tour quickly followed. Now, a year later, their new band has become a fixture on the indie rock touring scene as they reach the final leg of their second nationwide trek in as many years, which includes a stop at Queens, NY’s Forest Hills Stadium on Friday, July 7.And if you want to see the group perform their indefinable brand of atmospheric, anthemic jazz-rock fusion live, you can catch them for cheap this summer. How cheap?Well, at the time of publication, we found last-minute tickets going for as low as $14 before fees on Vivid Seats. We know. We couldn’t believe it either.Honestly, those prices make us…smile.Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves.Want to see how much it costs to catch the band that’s definitely not Radiohead at the show nearest you?Keep scrolling. We’ve got everything you need to know and more about the remaining dates on The Smile’s 2023 tour below. All prices listed listed above are subject to fluctuation.A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time.

Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan on the importance of Radiohead in the ’90s

Billy Corgan has openly praised Radiohead in a new interview, and hailed them as one of the first bands to harness a new way of making music in the 1990s.The Smashing Pumpkins frontman discussed the impact the band had on the decade in a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, and shared the respect he developed for Thom Yorke and co in 1997 – the same year they released ‘OK Computer’.The topic arose when Corgan explained how some artists have “a certain type of affirmational faith” instilled into them, where they believe that if they follow a certain process, things will start to work out. It was here that the host agreed, and claimed that one person he sees as having that quality is Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke.Corgan agreed, and explained how he initially had “very little respect for the band”, however, came to appreciate Yorke once he became more experimental, and released the band’s iconic third album.“I want to praise him here.

Jonny Greenwood announces new album ‘Jarak Qaribak’ with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa

Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood has announced a new album with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa.‘Jarak Qaribak’ will come out on June 9 and is being previewed by a first single titled ‘Ashufak Shay’.Discussing the style of the music on the album in a press release, Tassa – who has previously toured with Radiohead – said: “When people listen to this music, I really love to imagine them thinking…what is this? It sounds 1970s, but there are drum machines, there are guitars but they’re singing in Arabic…what’s going on?”Greenwood discussed how the project compared to another past collaboration with an Israeli singer, Shye Ben Tzur, saying: “‘Jarak Qaribak’ presented a similar set of problems, in that you have all these scales which don’t conform to western major/minor scales, and have notes which involve quarter-tones, and it’s very hard to impose a chord sequence on these melodies. It usually makes them collapse. It’s like reducing the resolution on a colour photo until it’s just squares.”Listen to ‘Ashufak Shay’ below alongside watching an album teaser.1. ‘Djit Nishrab’ (feat. Foo Fighters once again brought Dave Chappelle on stage for a cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ during the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert in Los Angeles last night (September 27).After celebrating Hawkins’ memory and music with a special six-hour gig in London earlier this month (September 3), ‘The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert’ took over LA’s Kia Forum on Tuesday evening, with a bounty of special guests. One of these was Dave Chappelle, who repeated the trick of covering Radiohead’s classic ‘Creep’ with Foo Fighters at their huge gig at Madison Square Garden in New York City last summer.Check out last night’s performance of ‘Creep’ below.Earlier in the show, Miley Cyrus teamed up with Foo Fighters and Def Leppard for an expansive version of Def Leppard’s 1983 hit ‘Photograph’ while Justin Hawkins took to the stage with late Foo Fighters drummer’s side project, The Coattail Riders, to perform a four-song set.Last night’s tribute gig started with an acoustic performance of ‘Hallelujah’ by Grohl’s daughter, Violet, featuring Alain Johannes. That was followed by a short set from the surviving Foos, Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Joan Jett, who performed two of the latter’s biggest hits from the ‘80s.Elsewhere, Pink joined forces with Foo Fighters and Queen to perform a rousing cover of ‘Somebody To Love’ – the song that Hawkins covered himself over the years.

Warner Music Group becomes first major label to adopt fan-powered royalties system

SoundCloud, who last year announced that it’d be the first music platform to direct the fees of its paying subscribers to the artists they stream.SoundCloud said that it was “a more equitable and transparent way for independent artists who monetise directly with SoundCloud to get paid”.It’s an approach that’s been previously backed by many musicians who have criticised the economics of online streaming.Leading streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music currently operate on a system where royalty payments are distributed in accordance with which artists have the most plays. But it has been criticised by smaller and up-and-coming acts, who claim that the system allows huge global names to generate vast amounts of money while leaving little for musicians who have not achieved similar success. Now, it’s been confirmed that Warner Music Group has implemented SoundCloud’s royalty system. Each artist credited with having earned royalties from a particular recording will earn a share based solely on each stream of that specific release. However, Far Out Magazine cites the results of a recent report by Media Research which found that 56 per cent of artists surveyed were making more revenue by using SoundCloud’s old pro-rata model rather than the new one.Numerous other major streaming platforms – including Spotify and Apple Music – are currently still using the pro-rota model.Upon SoundCloud introducing the fan-powered system, the company’s chief executive officer Michael Weissman said: “Many in the industry have wanted this for years.
