“Act II: Cowboy Carter,” due March 29.Mrs. Carter’s news left the Beyhive buzzing, with many recalling the cold reception the artist appeared to have once received from the country-music community, which inspired her to make her new LP.“It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” she wrote in an unusually lengthy post. And fans are speculating that Beyoncé is referring to the 2016 Country Music Association Awards, when she performed “Daddy Lessons” — a distinctly country ditty off her much-lauded “Lemonade” album — with the Chicks.Country star Alan Jackson reportedly walked out on the performance in protest, later tweeting #KeepItCountry. But seven years after that controversial CMAs appearance, Beyoncé has become the first black woman to have a No.

Texas hold up! Beyoncé to take us to ‘Carter Country’ with new album — release date revealed

Beyoncé is a little too young to have watched the “Carter Country” sitcom that aired on ABC from 1977 to 1979 — when Richard Paul’s Mayor Teddy Burnside character would dismissively tell his subordinates to “Handle it, handle it.” Well, five decades later, the new boss of “Carter Country” is none other than Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.On Tuesday, the hottest new cowgirl in the game announced that “Carter Country” would be the title of the country-themed “Act II” of her “Renaissance” trilogy — in a nod to her married name as the wife of Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter.Anticipation has been building to Country Bey’s album-length arrival after she dropped the twangy twosome of “Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages” on Super Bowl night Feb. 11.

Beyoncé is entering her Cowgirl Era.If you thought that Bey was just randomly rocking cowboy hats all of a sudden — from the promo pics for her “Renaissance” album and tour to merch and her Grammys look just over a week ago — then you don’t know Bey.And like the marketing queen that she is, she used the biggest audience possible — in a Super Bowl 2024 commercial for Verizon that ended with Beyoncé saying “Drop the new music” — to tease the arrival of two new surprise country singles: “Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages.”On a night that was supposed to belong to another pop superstar — Super Bowl LVIII halftime show headliner Usher — once again B was causing all the conversation.(We’re sure that Usher was all good with it — after his epic extravaganza at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, he reportedly went ahead and got married to his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea.)But here we are beginning what is “Act II” of the “Renaissance” rollout, which began with “Act I” — a house-music manifesto led by her No. 1 hit “Break My Soul” — in 2022.But judging by “Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages,” Beyoncé is now taking us from the clubs to the country on “Act II,” which, thankfully — no surprises here — we know is due March 29.Welcome to the Rodeo-sance.It shouldn’t be a complete shock that the all-time Grammy winner can actually do country music.
