Last month, director Trey Shults confirmed that he and Abel Tesfaye (aka music superstar The Weeknd) would co-write a new film featuring Tesfaye, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan. An intriguing list of artists there, to be sure.

On Sunday, A24 became the first studio to win all six major categories at the Academy Awards with “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” An impressive feat, to be sure, but David Byrne didn’t win Best Original Song for “This Is A Life,” his contribution to the Daniels‘ film. But, alas, A24 has something to cheer Byrne up.

There’s a terrific tension at the center of Jesse Eisenberg’s directorial debut, “When You Finish Saving The World,” and it seems to do with liberal ideology, identity, projection, and the push and pull fractures parents have with their teenage children and vice versa. Written and directed by Eisenberg and starring Julianne Moore and “Stranger Things” stars Finn Wolfhard, “When You Finish Saving The World” essentially is a comedic family drama about a mother and son who are trying to fill the gaps with how they no longer fit with other people.

It’s Halloween, and there is some exciting news on the horror front as Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) and A24 have announced they are teaming up for “Crystal Lake,” a prequel series that takes place in the world of “Friday The 13th” for Peacock’s streaming service. The beloved slasher film series would eventually see Jason Voorhees as the main threat against anyone with a pulse, as the zombified killing machine stalked the rural area where he died until he eventually explored Manhattan and space in subsequent sequels.

Robert Eggers and A24 made two massively successful horror movies together: 2015’s “The Witch” and 2019’s “The Lighthouse.” Now A24 wants to see what some of the other Eggers brothers can do behind the camera. Even as he flirts with retirement, Steve Martin finds himself in a late-career renaissance thanks to the Hulu comedy “Only Murders In The Building.” The show notched Martin three Emmy nominations this year, and as of last month, there’s a third season on the way. But there’s another upcoming project about Martin on the way, too, from documentary extraordinaire Morgan Neville.

Sebastian Stan made a splash in the indie film pool earlier this year as a man with peculiar appetites in “Fresh.” Mimi Cave‘s debut polarized audiences at Sundance in January, then Hulu subscribers on March 4. However, Stan must have loved the experience on “Fresh,” as he’s acting in not one but two upcoming A24 films.

Do you remember an untitled Lila Neugebauer-directed drama starring Jennifer Lawrence as a soldier suffering from PTSD and known in some circles as “Red, White, And Water”? Announced back in 2019, it’s been on our Most Anticipated Films Of The Year list for at least two years running, but there has not been a peep about the film until now. Seemingly in limbo for two years, the movie is finally coming out.
