responded. In February, Crosby performed live for the first time since 2019 after he surprised fans at the end of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s set in Santa Barbara, Calif.Crosby, much to the delight of eager fans, performed the hit 1970 track “Ohio” with vocal help from Shawn Colvin.“Was soooooooooo goooood to play with people who love it,” Crosby tweeted after the gig.I think I’m too old to tour any more ….sadly https://t.co/1y6dFscymL“Haven’t played live for a long time … Jason and that band swing so hard … then he is just sitting there alone singing ‘Cover Me Up’ and we’re crying.”It comes as Crosby rejoined Spotify last month after a five-month protest of controversial podcaster Joe Rogan. The folk rocker pulled his library of songs off of the streaming platform in solidarity with ex-band member Neil Young.Young, the Canadian-American grunge rocker, removed his catalog from Spotify earlier this year after the Sweden-based streaming company refused his demand to fire Rogan over alleged “disinformation” related to COVID-19 vaccines.“They can have Rogan or Young.

Mike Wass What’s old is new again. Take Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” Resurrected by “Stranger Things” and overnight virality on social media, the synth-pop anthem is a chart phenomenon (No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the week ending June 30) 37 years after it was first released in 1985.While revivals of that magnitude are rare, release dates have been obsolete on TikTok for years.

In Removing Neil Young’s Music, Spotify Didn’t Have to Listen to the Artist, but Did Have to Heed His Label

Chris Willman Music WriterHow did Neil Young get Spotify to remove his entire catalog from the service? Not by taking it up with the service directly; the service had no obligation to give his personal wishes the time of day, although the DSP is not about to put its head in the sand when an important artist is publicly going on the anti-Spotify warpath. Rather, Young convinced his longtime label, Warner Records, to be the one to plead his case to the service, at which point there was little doubt that the rocker was going to get his way.So as the question arises of which artists might want to follow Young’s lead and ask to have their music removed, too, in light of Spotify continuing to be the home base for Joe Rogan’s campaign to provide COVID misinformation, there’s not much they can do it about unless the heads of the labels they’re signed to agree to take it to the mat with the DSP.

Management looking into Neil Young’s request to boycott Spotify in Joe Rogan protest

Neil Young has demanded that his music be removed from Spotify in protest at its Joe Rogan Experience podcast, which has been accused of spreading misinformation around COVID-19.It follows a recent open letter signed by more than 250 scientists and medics that stated that the Spotify exclusive podcast has “a concerning history of broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic”.That letter insisted that Spotify itself – as the distributor of the podcast – has responsibility here, because by distributing Joe Rogan’s tedious ramblings it is helping to “damage public trust in scientific research and sow doubt in the credibility of data-driven guidance offered by medical professionals”.Echoing a number of the specific criticisms contained in that letter, earlier this week Young penned his own note on the matter. Posted to – but subsequently removed from – the musician’s website, Young’s note addressed his manager Frank Gironda and the boss of his label, Tom Corson at Warner Records. He wrote: “With an estimated eleven million listeners per episode, JRE – which is hosted exclusively on Spotify – is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence.
