The Crown Emmy winner Josh O’Connor and Normal People star Paul Mescal have been set to star in The History of Sound, a World War I love story adapted from Ben Shattuck’s Pushcart Prize-winning short story. Oliver Hermanus (Beauty, Moffie) is aboard to direct the pic, which hails from Cop Car producer End Cue. Production is set to begin in summer 2022 in the U.S. and on location in the UK and Italy.

“The Crown” star Josh O’Connor and “Normal People’s” Paul Mescal will star together in a love story and romance set during World War I called “The History of Sound.” Oliver Hermanus (“Beauty,” “Moffie”) will direct the feature film that tells the story of two young men during the WWI period who set out to record the lives, voices and music of their countrymen.

For his first film on Apartheid, South African director Oliver Hermanus did not expect to focus on the trauma of white men. Hermanus, who was born in Cape Town and now lives in London, is mixed race, the group labeled "colored" under the racist regime that ruled South Africa until the early 1990s.

The main character of Oliver Hermanus’ shattering “Moffie," set in 1981 South Africa, is a handsome, white 18-year-old. In the country's system of apartheid, he is a member of the ruling class, but he's no insider.Shy, timid and closeted, Nicholas van der Swart (Kai Luke Brummer) is conscripted into the army as part of regulated military service for white males over 16.

“Moffie” was all over recent awards shows, earning nominations from the BAFTA Awards for the best debut from a British writer/director/producer, Venice Film Festival’s Queer Lion, London Film Festival for best film, and the British Independent Film Awards for best director.

Lionsgate has taken UK distribution rights on Living, the Bill Nighy-starring English-language adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s classic Ikiru.

Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaIFC Films has nabbed North American rights to South African Oliver Hermanus’ “Moffie,” a queer war film that is set against the backdrop of a South African border war. In recent weeks, in anticipation of Moffie’s South African premiere on 13 March, director Oliver Hermanus shared and discussed the film with a select few local gay men for whom he has great admiration, and sat down to talk about their experience of the word “moffie.”

After increasing public demand, the team behind award-winning director Oliver Hermanus’ film, MOFFIE, today released its haunting recreation of the iconic song “Sugar Man” – a month to the day of the film’s South African release on 13 March.
