‘The Crown’ Season 5 Sets Netflix Premiere Date

K.J. Yossman Netflix has revealed the premiere date for “The Crown” Season 5 during its online Tudum fan event on Saturday. The dramatized series about the British Royal Family is set to return on Nov. 9 with an entirely new cast. Imelda Staunton (“Harry Potter”) takes over from Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II while Jonathan Pryce (“The Two Popes”) will play her husband, Prince Philip. Meanwhile Dominic West (“The Affair”) will play Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki (“Tenet”) will portray Princess Diana, Lesley Manville (“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”) joins as the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret, and Jonny Lee Miller (“Elementary”) stars as Prime Minister John Major.

An investigator into Princess Diana’s death says he had an “emotional” discussion with Prince Harry and Prince William. Lord John Stevens, 79, a former Metropolitan Police Commissioner, recalled speaking to the Princess of Wales’ two sons at their home of Kensington Palace in the immediate aftermath of the 1997 car crash in Paris that killed their mother, aged 36 and her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed, the 42-year-old son of the former proprietor of Fulham FC and the iconic Knightsbridge department store, Harrods, Mohamed Al-Fayed. He told US Weekly: “I have to say, I was quite emotional about it myself,” before adding that the two teenagers were upset about the “paparazzi” and how they chased the car.

Nick Vivarelli International CorrespondentRising Egyptian star Amir El-Masry (“Limbo”) has been cast as the young Egyptian billionaire Mohamed al-Fayed, the former Harrods owner, in the upcoming fifth season of Netflix’s “The Crown,” Variety can reveal.Netflix confirmed the casting but declined to provide further details.As previously reported by Variety, Salim Daw (“Oslo”) has been cast as the older incarnation of Mohamed al-Fayed, the father of Dodi Fayed, who was romantically linked to Diana, Princess of Wales, when they both died in a car crash in Paris, France on Aug. 31, 1997.Born in Cairo and raised in London, Amir El Masry broke out internationally in 2016 with a small standout role as a hotel chef opposite Tom Hiddleston in Susanne Bier-directed mini-series “The Night Manager.” He more recently garnered critical praise for his role as Syrian asylum-seeker living on a small Scottish island in Ben Sharrock’s drama “Limbo” for which El Masry won a BAFTA Scotland acting award.
