Hitting theaters Christmas Day, “Ferrari” focuses on a pivotal time in the Ferrari founder’s life – his marriage to wife Laura (Penélope Cruz) is deteriorating and she is unaware of the other family he has with girlfriend Lina (Shailene Woodley). At the same time, his company is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Variety’s Directors on Directors series is pretty great, and many interesting combos have been paired together. The most recent is Michael Mann, the director of this season’s “Ferrari,” starring Adam Driver, and Ava DuVernay, the filmmaker behind the upcoming drama, “Origin” featuring Aunjanue Ellis and Jon Bernthal.

After a domestic box office that’s been battered by double strikes, exhibition, and the industry overall, can thank Warner Bros for leaving three potential, ultimate $100M+ grossing movies under the tree; those being DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Wonka and The Color Purple.

Ava DuVernay and Michael Mann go way back. In 2003, DuVernay was a publicist on the set of Mann’s “Collateral.” Watching the auteur shoot in her old stomping grounds of East Los Angeles gave her the idea to pick up the camera. “That made me think, ‘Wow, this is possible,’” recalls DuVernay, sitting opposite the Oscar-nominated Mann to discuss where their careers have taken them in the 20 years since.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Neon has acquired North American rights to “Immaculate,” a religious thriller starring Sydney Sweeney. Sweeney, the star of “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” also produced the film with Black Bear and Middle Child Pictures. Neon is planning a theatrical release on a yet-to-be-determined date.

Neon has snapped up U.S. rights to Immaculate, a new horror film produced by and starring Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You), for release in theaters on a date not yet disclosed.

Michael Mann’s high octane biopic Ferrari has been announced as the closing picture of Saudi Arabia’s third Red Sea International Film Festival, running November 30 to December 9 in the port city of Jeddah.

Neon introduced the Michael Mann-directed Ferrari with a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Film Los Angeles on Saturday that featured a discussion with Mann and stars Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley.
