Tom Hanks turned down ‘When Harry Met Sally’ because he was ‘happy’ being divorced

Tom Hanks turned down “When Harry Met Sally” because he was happily divorced and couldn’t relate.Hanks, 66, and Meg Ryan, 61, almost had a rom-com trio after starring in 1993’s “Sleepless in Seattle” and 1998’s “You’ve Got Mail,” both written and directed by Nora Ephron. But Hank’s wife Rita Wilson, 66, revealed that the “Forrest Gump” star declined the offer to star alongside Ryan in 1989’s “When Harry Met Sally” — also written by Ephron — because he couldn’t relate to the character of Harry Burns being depressed post-divorce.“People, probably don’t know this, but Tom was offered ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and he turned it down because he was going through a divorce and he was very happy to be not married,” Hank’s current wife said on the “Table for Two With Bruce Bozzi” podcast.“And so he could not understand that a person going through a divorce would have anything other than just like, ‘I’m so happy.’ But I loved that script,” Wilson continued.Hanks and his first wife Samantha Lewes got married in 1978 when Hanks was 21 years old and eventually divorced in 1987.

‘Gotham Knights’ has been cancelled after one season

Gotham Knights has been cancelled after just one season. The DC Comics-based drama was one of three scripted CW series which were facing the axe along with Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming, which have both been renewed.Despite being a “respectable ratings performer” since it was premiered in March, the show has now been cancelled, according to Deadline. It is believed that under different circumstances, the show could have made it to a second season but, with the business model of the CW changing under its new ownership, only a handful of existing scripted series could make the cut.Gotham Knights, which was written by the Batwoman trio of Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, picked up in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s murder, with his rebellious adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan) forging an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies – Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan), Harper Row (Fallon Smythe), and her brother Cullen Row (Tyler DiChiara) when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.A synopsis for the show, when it was first announced, added: “As the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names.

The DC Movies to Watch Before ‘The Flash’

“The Flash” races into theaters this weekend, and it’s a lot of movie. The superhero film promises to be a landmark in the genre by not only being something of a send-off for the “DC Extended Universe” of films but also serving as a reboot that makes way for the new “DC Universe” of films and TV shows. As if that wasn’t enough, “The Flash” is also bringing back some long-time fan favorites and providing a unique revisionist spin on the entire DC universe as we know it by bringing back Michael Keaton as Batman and retelling the events of “Man of Steel”.

Does ‘The Flash’ have a post-credits scene?

The Flash.Directed by Andy Muschietti (It, Mama), this superhero crossover blends DC’s past and present; featuring Ben Affleck’s Batman, Michael Shannon as General Zod from Man Of Steel, alongside Michael Keaton’s return as the caped crusader.Other cast members include Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ron Livingstone as Henry Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen. There are two post-credits scenes; one halfway through and another at the very end of the credits.DC hasn’t officially announced a sequel. The Flash was developed and filmed under the previous leadership at DC Studios, so it’s unclear whether Miller’s version of the character will continue to exist under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new plans.Speaking during an interview on the Discourse podcast, Muschietti said Miller wouldn’t be recast in any potential sequel, despite their past arrests and alleged abuse.Asked about having Miller return, Muschietti said: “If [a sequel] happens, yes.

And a strong case could be made for “Jackie Brown.” For his much-anticipated follow-up to the zeitgeist-capturing (and Oscar-winning) “Pulp Fiction,” Tarantino chose an adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s 1992 novel “Rum Punch.” (It was his first and only movie based on a preexisting source.) Tarantino went to casting some of his heroes in the lead roles – Pam Grier, who made a name for herself starring in low-budget exploitation films for Roger Corman, plays the title role; and Robert Forster, who appeared in cult favorites like “Alligator” and Disney’s misbegotten “The Black Hole.” It’s a twisty crime movie, for sure, with outstanding performers in supporting parts (Bridget Fonda, Robert De Niro, Michael Keaton and Samuel L.

Mark Hamill Says Backlash Over Michael Keaton’s Batman Casting Inspired Him to Audition for Joker: ‘There Was a Great Controversy’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director While Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix and Jack Nicholson are the faces that pop into one’s head when the name “Joker” is said, no list of the best on-screen Jokers is complete without Mark Hamill. The “Star Wars” icon voiced the Batman villain on “Batman: The Animated Series,” which originally aired for 85 episodes on Fox Kids from 1992-1995. Hamill earned acclaim for the voice role, but it would have never happened without Michael Keaton’s casting as Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 comic book film. As Hamill recalled during a recent Wired video interview, Keaton’s casting as Bruce Wayne/Batman earned backlash from comic book fans, considering he was more known as a comedic actor in films such as “Mr. Mom” and Burton’s own “Beetlejuice.”

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic on Outlasting the Stars He Parodies, Why He’s Not Making New Music and the Truth About His Torrid Affair With Madonna

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Let’s travel back to the summer of 1989. I’m 15 years old and have just put two large movie posters on my wall: One for Tim Burton’s game-changing take on “Batman,” starring Michael Keaton, and the other for “UHF,” the theatrical comedy debut for the one and only “Weird Al” Yankovic. It’s now 2023. Keaton is back as Batman in next month’s “The Flash.” And Weird Al (always Weird Al, not just Al Yankovic!) is the front-runner for this year’s TV movie Emmy, thanks to the Roku Channel parody biopic “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.” “1989 is back again! It’s all cyclical,” Yankovic says in his signature cheery, upbeat tone. Tell my 15-year-old self that one day he’ll be recording a podcast with Weird Al, and first he’d say, “what’s a podcast?” But after explaining that it’s essentially a radio show, my 15-year-old self would lose his mind. And ask about 2023’s flying cars. Sorry kid.

Sophia Scorziello editor A new “Beetlejuice” chapter from Tim Burton is on the way, with “Wednesday” breakout Jenna Ortega joining stars from the original horror comedy. The film is a sequel to Burton’s 1988 classic about a family in their new home and the married ghost couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) trying to dispel them. The family’s curious goth teenage daughter, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), is the only human able to see the ghosts. After befriending them, Lydia soon finds herself mixed up in horrors and complexities of the afterlife.
