The Jesse Armstrong-created drama hit a series high of 2.5 million viewers on Sunday night, when HBO aired Episode 3 of the fourth and final season. The ratings bump was certainly helped along by the episode’s shocking twist, which will dramatically impact the way the series ends. (Read Variety‘s recap here.) Provided by Warner Bros. Discovery, that figure represents a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of the audience that tuned into the episode live on HBO’s cable channel and WBD’s own data regarding streams on HBO Max through the night.

Succession Season 4 has set another audience record with its stunning third episode.

After all, Logan, played by Brian Cox, had a stroke in the 2018 series premiere of HBO’s Emmy-winning drama, and his ill-health has been an ongoing concern. But Logan dying in Episode 3?! Specifically, Mylod revealed that the scene in which the Roy kids first get a call from Tom was shot in one long, unbroken 27-minute take.“In the planning of the shots, it felt to me like the camera had to be almost sadistically voyeuristic,” Mylod recalled.

The new trailer teases the Roy kids’ final battle against their father Logan (Brian Cox), who outmaneuvered them — with some sneaky help from Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) — from stopping the Waystar Royco deal with GoJo in the Season 3 finale. Here’s the official logline: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. Charna Flam John Leguizamo will receive the Miami Film Festival‘s Impact Award on March 11. Leguizamo’s new MSNBC series, “Leguizamo Does America,” will screen ahead of the award presentation.

Taylor Swift will make her feature directorial debut with Searchlight Pictures, the company announced today. The acclaimed singer, songwriter and director has written an original script, which will be produced by the studio.

Mark Mylod’s The Menu, from a script by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, has become one of Searchlight Pictures’ best success stories since its release last month, racking up the company’s biggest opening weekend since Slumdog Millionaire.

As part of a sizzle reel for upcoming HBO/HBO Max series released Monday, a clearly excited Logan Roy is giving an effusive rallying cry to employees at Waystar Royco on the eve of the impending sale of the media company to tech CEO Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård).

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Hong Chau has joined the cast of the anticipated new film from “The Favourite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos. Chau, who has been prolific in recent years, joins a stacked ensemble featuring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Plot details are (frustratingly) under wraps from the Greek master of subversion, who has also given us “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth.” Lanthimos directs from a script he wrote with Efthimis Filippou (reuniting after both “Lobster” and “Sacred Deer”). Searchlight Pictures is financing and distributing the project with Element Pictures and Film4. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element, Kasia Malipan and Lanthimos are producing. Principal photography begins this month in Chau’s native New Orleans.

K.J. Yossman “Succession” showrunner Jesse Armstrong made a dig at the U.K.’s King Charles III during his Emmys acceptance speech on Monday night. Taking to the stage along with the show’s execs and castmembers, including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun, to accept the Emmy for outstanding drama series, Armstrong said, “Big week for successions. New king in the U.K., this for us.” Armstrong, who is British, then said: “Evidently a little bit more voting in our winning than Prince Charles,” prompting gasps from the audience and some of his team on stage.

The best of the 2021-2022 TV season has been revealed, first during the 74th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were handed on Sept. 3 and 4, before being followed by the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards hosted by Kenan Thompson on Sept. 12.

“The Menu,” a dark, bloody satire of the one percent and the restaurants that cater to them. The film stars Ralph Fiennes as the pretentious, craft-obsessed head chef at an exclusive restaurant on a remote island.
