Stone cold: Metallica was once told not to make eye contact with Mick Jagger

now-79-year-old frontman, Mick Jagger.Initially, the first time that Metallica opened for anyone since 1992 was deemed “an honor and a privilege,” the band’s drummer, Lars Ulrich, said on this week’s episode of the podcast “Club Random With Bill Maher.”“At that time, we had played shows over our career with Deep Purple and AC/DC, with a few other bands, all the bands that I had posters of on my wall when I was a kid. And so the last one of those boxes to check was the Stones,” Ulrich told Maher.“So we’re sitting backstage, and — and this is in no way a judgment on the Stones, this is really more about us — at one point a a personal assistant or whatever comes and says, ‘Mick Jagger’s gonna walk through here in a couple minutes, he’s going over to his private gym in his truck and he’s going to warm up before the show.

Metallica’s ’72 Seasons’ Is a Rager in the Band’s Classic Style, Even if Lyrics Leave Anger Behind: Album Review

A.D. Amorosi Since the group’s rabid four-album start, setting a ridiculously high bar for turning doom-metal and thrash-nihilism into wrenchingly emotional high art has been the blessing and curse of Metallica. “Kill ‘Em All” in 1983, the following year’s 1984’s “Ride the Lightning,” 1986’s “Master of Puppets” and 1988’s “…And Justice for All” blend into a single, crushing aesthetic achievement, an innovation akin to Stevie Wonder or David Bowie’s runs in the 1970s, where each recording was as breathlessly anticipated as it was thunderingly rewarding. The new “72 Seasons” comes close to Metallica’s bone-crushing, skull-f%$3ng, ire-clinging peak, with more raging guitar solos courtesy of Kirk Hammett, if just a hint of the lyrical anger management by James Hetfield that we’ve heard since the therapy sessions contained in 2004’s “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” doc.

We’d love to meet you and pay our respects!'”The same WSJ interview saw Dylan reveal that he’d “made special efforts” to see Jack White and Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich says negative reaction to Lou Reed collaboration was down to “ignorance” of fans

Here’s a story for you. A few months ago I was thinking about Metallica and Lou Reed’s collaborative album ‘Lulu’. More than ten years on from the shock we all experienced on first listen – you know, because of the strangeness of that project – not to mention the the backlash that followed, it occurred to me that it might be fun to give the record another play.Because maybe listening to that album again after all this time would reveal something quite interesting and worthwhile that we all missed first time round.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich blames “ignorance” for reaction to ‘Lulu’, says it has “aged well”

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has blamed “ignorance” for the reaction to ‘Lulu’, their 2011 collaborative album recorded with Lou Reed. The album earned mixed reviews upon its release and has continued to be one of the most divisive records of Metallica’s career, while Reed once claimed it was so unpopular that Metallica fans threatened to shoot him for making it.Ulrich previously reflected on the experience of working with the Velvet Underground legend as a positive one, maintaining that he “wouldn’t change a thing” about the record.Ulrich has now once again reflected on the response to the album, asking (via Loudwire) in Reed’s posthumously released new book, The Art Of The Straight Line: My Tai Chi: “What the fuck is it about ‘Lulu’ that it got that kind of reaction?”He continued: “I can’t quite figure it out, but years later, it’s aged extremely well. It sounds like a motherfucker still.
