Emmy Awards criticised for nominating Bella Ramsey for Best Actress

The Last Of Us is non-binary, and has recently shared their hope for gender-neutral categories at award ceremonies. The 19-year-old has been nominated for the award alongside alongside Sarah Snook (Succession), Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat) at the 2023 Emmys, and many have shared their dislike of the choice, owing to Ramsey’s gender-fluid identity, which they revealed earlier this year.“‘best actress’ for an openly nonbinary person who wore a binder the entire filming hahahahaha sick,” one wrote on social media.Another added: “Award shows need more inclusive categories for people with gender-expansive identities.”‘best actress’ for an openly nonbinary person who wore a binder the entire filming hahahahaha sick https://t.co/YR3sB3Rpzr— dyke wazowski (@sillygoofyz) July 12, 2023Award shows need more inclusive categories for people with gender-expansive identities.— Zillastorm (@Zillastorm) July 12, 2023In an interview after the nomination was announced, The Last Of Us creator Craig Mazin said that he had spoken with Ramsey about the situation, and that it’s “a really interesting challenge” in the film industry. He told Variety: “On the one hand, the conversation about gender has transformed dramatically and in a very progressive and positive way.“On the other, we have to practically make sure that by moving away from gendered categories, we don’t short-change traditionally overlooked folks… and we know that in non-gendered categories like directing and writing, women have been historically under-appreciated.”Earlier this year, Ramsey called for “more space” for non-binary actors at awards shows.

Keri Russell’s ‘The Diplomat’ Is Not the Second Coming of ‘The Americans’: TV Review

Emily Tannenbaum Fans of FX’s popular Cold War drama “The Americans” will undoubtedly check out “The Diplomat” in the hopes that Keri Russell’s next political thriller can fill the heart-pumping void the hit series left behind in 2018. They shouldn’t — at least, not for that reason. Though “The Americans” and “The Diplomat” share a star, as well as a similar focus on marital power struggles, the new series from “Homeland” executive producer Debora Cahn is less gritty spy thriller and more soapy workplace drama. Throughout the show’s eight, hour-long episodes, I found myself thinking of “The Diplomat” as a Shondaland-inspired take on “The West Wing,” which makes sense considering Cahn cut her teeth as a writer on both “Grey’s Anatomy” and Aaron Sorkin’s NBC series.

‘Cocaine Bear’ Star Aaron Holliday Joins ‘Faces of Death’ Remake From ‘How to Blow Up a Pipeline’ Helmer Daniel Goldhaber (EXCLUSIVE)

John Bleasdale Guest Contributor “Cocaine Bear” and “Euphoria” actor Aaron Holliday has joined a remake of “Faces of Death” from “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” director Daniel Goldhaber. The project began filming on Monday in New Orleans. Holliday will join cast members Barbie Ferreira (“Euphoria”) and Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things”), who Legendary had previously announced. Helmer Goldhaber’s most recent film “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” is currently on international release, from a script co-written with Isa Mazzei, a regular collaborator who co-wrote his first feature, “Cam,” in 2018. Holliday recently broke out in Elizabeth Banks’ buzzy horror comedy “Cocaine Bear” for Universal Pictures. He stars in the Lord-Miller produced comedy-thriller alongside Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, Margo Martindale, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Holliday recently wrapped a leading role in James Kimball’s feature debut “For the Night,” alongside Will Block and Odessa A’zion. ‘Cocaine Bear’ Sets April Release on Peacock

Anna Tingley If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Variety may receive an affiliate commission. If you missed “Cocaine Bear” in theaters, worry not: the absolutely preposterous slasher comedy about, yes, a coked-up bear, is coming to Peacock on April 14. The Elizabeth Banks-directed film hits the streamer nearly two months after it premiered in theaters, where it beat box office expectations and earned an impressive $24 million during its opening weekend. The wild R-rated movie, inspired by a stranger-than-fiction story about a drug runner’s plane crash, imagines the events that would have transpired if the American black bear that ingested a duffle bag full of blow had lived to tell the tale. It was budgeted at roughly $35 million, which was mostly dedicated to the CGI used to bring to life the coked-out beast alongside the human cast of Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Brooklynn Prince. Its box office success marks another win for Universal following its killer-doll movie “M3GAN,” which collected $170 million globally and, like “Cocaine Bear,” also became available to stream on Peacock only seven weeks after its release.
