EXCLUSIVE: Blumhouse/Sony/Depth of Field’s They Listen has added Greg Hill to the Chris Weitz written and directed feature. The pic reps Hill’s second collaboration with director Weitz, having worked with him on MGM’s post-World War II thriller Operation Finale, as part of the ensemble cast that included Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley, Melanie Laurent and Nick Kroll. 

2018’s sleeper hit, Searching showed you could create an effective edge-of-your-seat mystery thriller told exclusively through the use of the screens that dominate our daily lives in this century. It starred John Cho as a father whose 16 year old daughter disappears, leading him to use all the tools of the internet to try and trace her steps in order to find her. Its followup, Missing, actually improves on that idea with a different story and set of characters, taking it several leaps further in creating a corker of a suspense picture that looks like what a filmmaking master such as Hitchcock might have made had he been an IT genius too.

Writer/Director Chris Weitz and John Cho have a history going back to the original “American Pie” film in 1999. They team up next for the horror film “They Listen,” their eleventh collaboration overall.

The upcoming “Star Trek” sequel originally scheduled for December, 2023 has been undated and removed from Paramount’s upcoming release slate, TheWrap as confirmed. No further information about the decision has been disclosed, but the move comes almost exactly a month after director Matt Shakman exited the project.
