The Bear has finally been renewed for season 3 at FX (and Hulu!)

EXCLUSIVE: FX is developing a half-hour comedy series based on the 2021 This American Life segment “I Was a Teenage Smuggler.” The series will be penned by Joanna Calo, Carlos López Estrada and the story’s reporter Kevin Sieff. They will serve also executive produce alongside Ira Glass and Alissa Shipp of This American Life.

Selome Hailu Though production on Season 2 of “The Bear” was well underway before Ramy Youssef traveled to Copenhagen to direct the fourth episode, series creator Chris Storer was slow to bring him fully behind the curtain. “He didn’t let me watch anything they had shot [in the first three episodes]. He was like, ‘No, no. You can see it when you come back, but just make this what you think it should be,'” Youssef remembers. Youssef is the first and only person to serve as a director on “The Bear” besides Storer and his co-showrunner Joanna Calo. When a tight production timeline made it impossible for Storer or Calo to direct in Copenhagen on top of nine Chicago-set episodes, Youssef was Storer’s first choice. Storer has been a director and executive producer on Youssef’s Hulu series “Ramy” since its 2019 debut, and had bounced ideas for “The Bear” off of him since “way back when it was a movie idea.”

Yes, chef. Things are heating up for Season 2 of FX’s The Bear on Hulu.

While FX and Hulu did not reveal the actual streaming figures behind that data point, the Disney-owned brands did confirm “The Bear’s” second season debut was the most-watched premiere of any FX series on Hulu.

The Bear will return for its second season on Thursday, June 22, FX announced today. All 10 episodes of the hit dark comedy will be available for streaming exclusively on Hulu. Season 2 will be available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories at a later date. FX also released the season 2 key art (see below).

Selome Hailu “The Bear” has added Molly Gordon to the cast of its second season. The news came via Instagram posts from series creator Chris Storer and recurring star and co-producer Matty Matheson. Details regarding Gordon’s character remain under wraps, though FX confirms it is a key recurring role. The series stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmen Berzatto, an elite, Noma-trained chef who returns to Chicago to run his family’s failing sandwich shop after his older brother, Michael (Jon Bernthal), dies by suicide. The cast also includes Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas and Edwin Lee Gibson as well as Matty Matheson, who co-produces the series.

EXCLUSIVE: Legendary Entertainment, Feigco Entertainment and Ghost House have closed a deal for a feature adaptation of the novel Suburban Hell from author Maureen Kilmer. Joanna Calo has been tapped to write with Paul Feig and Laura Fischer of Feigco Entertainment producing alongside Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of Ghost House. Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee for Ghost House.

FX‘s hit series The Bear is set to return early this summer with an increase from 8 episodes to 10. An exact date will be revealed at a later date.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards are unveiling their 2023 nominees for television Tuesday morning. FX has handed a pilot order to half-hour The Bear, from Ramy executive producer/director Christopher Storer, Hiro Murai’s (Atlanta) Super Frog, Joanna Calo (Bojack Horseman, Undone) and FX Productions.
