EXCLUSIVE: Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, comedian James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind have joined the cast of the live action sequel to Sony Pictures’ box office hit film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Gil Kenan is directing, which sees the previous cast returning and the film returning to the original films’ New York City and Firehouse setting. Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s original cast including Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon are on board to return.

Edward R. Pressman, the prolific Hollywood indie producer behind Wall Street, Badlands and The Crow, among dozens of others, died Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was 79.

Yesterday was Ghostbusters Day, and at the official event on the Sony Pictures lot, the duo behind “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” had a lot to share about the franchise’s future. And that future is stacked with new projects.

The announcement was made on the Sony Pictures lot by “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” director Jason Reitman and his writing partner Gil Kenan Wednesday as part of “Ghostbusters Day,” a special event commemorating the anniversary of the original 1984 “Ghostbusters” release. As teased by the post-credit sequence in “Afterlife,” the sequel will see the series return to the Ghostbusters’ original headquarters in a New York City firehouse, where Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) is seen driving the Ecto-1 back to its first home.

Dan Aykroyd, 69, is speaking out after the devastating death of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. The actor, who was one of the cast members of the original 1984 supernatural comedy film about ghost hunters, released a statement on Twitter about the iconic creator, who died at the age of 75 on Feb. 12.
