Everything Everywhere All at Once stormed the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday night, but viewers have been left shocked after finding out what the directors' last film was.

“We’ve come a long way that two men can share an Oscar,” joked Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel after the commercial break following Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s win for Best Director for A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Everything Everywhere All at Once” rake in the accolades at the Academy Awards wasn’t gratifying enough, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (a.k.a. the Daniels) also entered the history books as the third directing duo in history to win Best Director.The Daniels’ nomination was the fourth time a team of two had been up for the prize, with previous nominations going to Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise for 1961’s “West Side Story,” Buck Henry and Warren Beatty for 1978’s “Heaven Can Wait” and Ethan and Joel Coen 2007’s “No Country for Old Men.”With the Daniels’ win, directing duos have gone three for four at the Academy Awards, suggesting that, once nominated, the Academy has little problem seeing directing as a team sport. The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” pair came into the evening as the odds-on favorite in the category, with their film enjoying overwhelming success on the awards circuit the weeks and months prior.

The DGA Awards, which has historically matched up best with the eventual winner of best director, chose the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. They’re the third directing team to win in the DGA’s 75-year history (after Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins for “West Side Story” and Joel Coen and Ethan Coen for “No Country for Old Men”). Only eight DGA winners have failed to walk away with the Academy Award in the same season, with the last instance being Sam Mendes (“1917”), who won at DGA but lost to Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”) at the 2020 Oscars.

Veteran studio executives Peter Kujawski and Jason Cassidy will receive an Industry Tribute at the 32nd annual Gotham Awards ceremony, taking place live and in person at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Monday, November 28.

Carson Burton Amiah Miller and Bill Heck are rounding out the cast of Searchlight Pictures’ upcoming horror thriller film “Dust.” The film stars Sarah Paulson of “American Horror Story,” Annaleigh Ashford and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in a story set in 1930s Oklahoma. It follows a woman who, during the region’s increasingly perilous dust storms, is convinced that a sinister presence is threatening her family. The film is directed by Will Joines and Karrie Crouse, and Crouse penned the script. “Dust” commenced principal photography this week in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Miller previously starred as Nova in the 2017 film from 20th Century Studios “War for the Planet of the Apes” alongside Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn. In 2020, she was also seen in David Oyelowo’s feature directorial debut “The Water Man.”

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the filmmaker would be going solo without his brother Joel who directed The Tragedy of Macbeth without him last year.Ethan wrote the script for the untitled film, reportedly inspired by Russ Meyer, alongside his wife Tricia Cooke in the early 2000s.A synopsis reads: “The story centred on a party girl who takes a trip from Philadelphia to Miami with her buttoned-down friend. Cruising bars ensues as does the potpourri of a severed head in a hatbox, a bitter ex-girlfriend, a mystery briefcase and an evil senator.”The film’s lead roles have now been filled.

CANNES, France -- Most in the film industry thought Ethan Coen was done with making movies. Ethan did, too.But on Sunday, Coen will premiere his first documentary, “Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind," at the Cannes Film Festival, a movie that was unknown until last month's festival lineup announcement.

One of the topics that dominated the “The Tragedy of Macbeth” press circuit was Ethan Coen‘s absence from the film. With Joel Coen going solo, the decades-long partnership between the Coen Brothers seemed to have reached an inglorious conclusion.

For his directing debut after brother Joel’s first solo outing with The Tragedy of Macbeth, Ethan Coen has chosen a similar saga of ruthless ambition and soul-devouring guilt, telling the rise and fall — and rise again — of Jerry Lee Lewis, from farmer’s son to rock’n’roll idol.
