Netflix has renewed adult-skewed animated anthology series Love, Death and Robots for a fourth season. The streamer announced the renewal Friday on Instagram.

The two first partnered to revive the 1980s anthology genre film “Heavy Metal,” with that project eventually evolving into the acclaimed “Love, Death + Robots.” The duo even attempted a comic book adaptation with “The Goon.” An animated film based on the Eric Powell comic book that was published by Dark Horse Comics that has been sitting in development hell for ages, despite word back in 2019 that 20th Century Studios was picking it up.

“The Goon” movie is finally, actually happening.“Deadpool” and “Terminator: Dark Fate” filmmaker Tim Miller — who has been developing an adaptation of “The Goon” for over a decade — announced the news during Collider’s Directors on Directing panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.Miller also announced that the film will be directed by Patrick Osborne, who won an Oscar for directing the Disney animated short film “Feast.” He said Osborne and comic creator Eric Powell are currently working on the adaptation.The comic book series follows the titular character as he battles various supernatural monsters.An adaptation of “The Goon” was first announced in 2008, to be produced by Blur Studio (founded by Miller) and David Fincher.

Zack Sharf “Nope” is widely being called the most ambitious directorial effort of Jordan Peele’s career so far, so it’s no surprise to hear the first rough cut of the project clocked in at nearly four hours. Peele shot a ton of material for the movie, and he even embraced his inner David Fincher by shooting around 20 different takes of Keke Palmer’s introductory monologue.“My editor is Nick Monsour, he’s the guy I worked with in ‘Us,'” Peele recently told Collider.

Animation is film!” When the cheers died down, he world premiered eight minutes of footage, finished and unfinished, from his stop-motion fable about a wooden boy with a borrowed soul.

Magnolia and Boogie Nights, has died aged 90.As confirmed by the actor’s daughter Anna Ruth Hall (via The Washington Post), Hall died in his home in Glendale, California on Sunday night (June 12). Yossman Guillermo del Toro and Kid Cudi are among the names that will appear at Netflix’s inaugural Annecy International Animation Film Festival showcase next month.The streamer is also bringing masterclasses and the world premiere of Chris Williams’ sea monster adventure “The Sea Beast,” starring Karl Urban and Dan Stevens, to the festival, which takes place in France.Netflix’s showcase will offer an exclusive first look at del Toro’s upcoming stop-motion adaptation of “Pinocchio,” with the filmmaker attending in person to discuss the project, as well as the first look at “Entergalactic,” the adult animated series from Kid Cudi (AKA Scott Mescudi) and Kenya Barris, which is based on Cudi’s album of the same name.

Director David Fincher got his feature film start with “Alien 3” but has avoided the sci-fi genre until recently, making his triumphant return with his animated short “Bad Travelling” for his animated anthology project “Love Death + Robots,” his first entry into directing animation. The short, streaming on Netflix, mixes multiple genres with horror and features a Lovecraftian-type creature along with a mortality tale, based on a Neal Asher (a handful of his work is used on the show) story that was adapted by longtime collaborator Andrew Kevin Walker (“Seven“).

Ramin Setoodeh Executive Editor“Holy Spider,” a gritty drama about a real-life Iranian serial killer, stunned the Cannes Film Festival at its premiere on Sunday afternoon, earning a thunderous seven-minute standing ovation and bringing a jolt of electricity to what’s been a sleepy festival so far.The film, from Iranian-Danish director Ali Abbasi (“Border”), chronicles a killing spree in the streets of the religious city of Mashhad, where 16 prostitutes were found dead from 2000 to 2001.  A local journalist, Rahimi (Zar Amir-Ebrahimi), is trying to crack the case as she grows frustrated by the police’s apathy toward finding the murderer. But in one of many twists in this drama, the identity of the serial killer is revealed early on — he’s a war veteran named Saeed (Mehdi Bajestani), a seemingly normal family man who spends his nights picking up women on his motorcycle and brutally strangling them in his home as a religious cleansing ritual.

Mindhunter director Andrew Dominik has detailed the planned plot from the show’s stalled third season.After its second season in 2020, the critically-acclaimed Netflix series was indefinitely delayed. There’s been little hope of a third season materialising ever since, with stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv all released from their contracts.Speaking to Collider, season two director Dominik explained the direction season three would have taken – and it involves a trip to Hollywood.“What they were going to do with season three was they were going to go [to] Hollywood,” Dominik said.

George Michael has been announced by Sony Music Entertainment and Trafalgar Releasing. The motion picture, which is hitting the cinemas globally on June 22, will mark the final piece of work from the musician, who was heavily involved in the project before his death at the age of 53 on Christmas Day 2016. It will provide viewers with a closer look behind the scenes of his tumultuous life, including the loss of his mother and heartbreak following the death if his first love, Anselmo Feleppa, who died aged 36 from AIDS.
