Ethan Shanfeld Eddie Murphy is readying his magnifying glass, as the actor is in talks to star as Inspector Clouseau in MGM’s upcoming “Pink Panther” film, Variety has confirmed. The reboot of the classic property will be directed by “Sonic the Hedgehog” filmmaker Jeff Fowler. Chris Bremner (“Bad Boys for Life,” “The Man From Toronto”) is writing the script, while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce via their Rideback banner. “The Pink Panther” franchise began with the 1963 comedy film starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Sellers would go on to reprise the role in 1964’s “A Shot in the Dark,” 1975’s “The Return of the Pink Panther,” 1976’s “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” and 1978’s “Revenge of the Pink Panther.” The role has also been inhabited by Alan Arkin, Roger Moore and Steve Martin.

Walker Independence executive producer Jared Padalecki is not giving up hope that the show will find a way to go on and says a search is underway to find a new home for Season 2. Following the CW’s cancellation of the Walker prequel series Tuesday, Padalecki tells Deadline’s sister site TVLine, “We are aggressively looking for a place that Walker Independence can land.”

The series served as a prequel to fellow CW show “Walker,” which was just renewed for Season 4 at the network. The show was set in the late 1800s. Per the official description, it followed “Abby Walker (Katherine McNamara), an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. After crossing paths with Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez), a curious Apache tracker, Abby arrives in the town of Independence, Texas, where she encounters diverse and eclectic residents running from their pasts, chasing their dreams, and keeping their own secrets.”

The CW Network has renewed “Walker” for a 13-episode fourth season that will air in the 2023-2024 broadcast season. The series, which is a reimagining of the long-running show “Walker, Texas Ranger,” stars Jared Padalecki (“Supernatural”) as Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, who returns home to Austin, Texas, after being undercover for two years.

Comedian Hasan Minhaj, best known for his Peabody Award-winning Netflix series “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,” wrote the project with Prashanth Venkataramanujam to launch their production company, 186K Films. Minhaj will also play a role in the film.  Dan Lin’s Rideback is also producing. Additionally, Khan is attached to direct an adaptation of the classic children’s book “The Cricket in Times Square” — about a cricket from New Jersey named Chester who lands in Manhattan after accidentally getting trapped in a picnic basket — for Spyglass. BreAnna Bell Madeleine Stowe (“Soundtrack,” “Revenge”) and Stephen Rider (“Daredevil”) have joined the cast of HBO Max’s “It” prequel series currently titled, “Welcome to Derry.” HBO Max is scheduled to formally become Max on May 23. Variety exclusively reported the addition of previous cast members Taylour Paige (“Zola,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Jovan Adepo (“Babylon,” “Watchmen”), Chris Chalk (“Perry Mason,” “All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt”), and James Remar (“Oppenheimer,” “Megalopolis”). The duo’s exact roles remain under wraps along with the show’s plot details. But Variety has confirmed Stowe will appear in a recurring guest role while Rider is a series regular. The official logline for the series states, “Set in the world of Stephen King’s ‘It’ universe, ‘Welcome to Derry’ is based on King’s ‘It’ novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films ‘It’ and ‘It Chapter Two.’” HBO Max first order the show to series in February.
