AFI Fest Sets Dates For November 2022 And Unites With AFI Docs; TCM Classic Film Fest Sets ‘E.T.’ For Opening Night

AFI FEST 2022 has officially announced its dates and call for entries. The 36th edition will take place in Los Angeles, CA, on November 2-6, 2022.  Entries open today and filmmakers are invited to submit fiction, documentary, experimental and animated short films. Once again placing the fest in the heart of awards season AFI Fest is planning to fully return to its usual place in the run up to Oscars, and seems to be returning to some level of normality if Covid cooperates, although today’s announcement didn’t give details on what the fest will look like or if it will be fully in person or partially virtual once again. Netflix’s strong Oscar contender tick,tick…BOOM! opened the 2021 Fest in November.

UPDATED, 4:15 PM: The American Film Institute has set a date for its AFI Awards Luncheon, which had been postponed during Christmas Week as the Omicron variant began surging. The reception now is set for Friday, March 11, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The event originally was set for January 7.

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that  the AFI AWARDS luncheon is postponed. The Luncheon was scheduled to take place on  Friday, January 7, but due to concerns over the rising cases of Covid-19,  AFI will reschedule the event for a later date.

Spike Lee Pays Tribute to Tom Pollock: "The Unsung Hero" of 'Do the Right Thing'

Spike Lee, George Lucas, Frank Marshall, Martin Scorsese and AFI chief Bob Gazzale pay tribute to Tom Pollock, the former chairman of Universal Pictures, who died Saturday night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles following a heart attack. Pollock, who was 77, also served as chairmanof the American Film Institute and co-founded the Montecito Picture Co.
