The ceremony will take place Dec. 3 and be filmed for later broadcast airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Four of the five honorees hail from the world of music, although Queen Latifah has shifted her focus toward acting in recent years. The ratio is not an uncommon one for the Kennedy Center Honors: Last year’s ceremony honored U2, Amy Grant, Tania León and Gladys Knight, leaving George Clooney the odd acting man out.

Actor and comedian Billy Crystal, British singer-songwriter, producer and Bee Gees member Barry Gibb, rapper, singer and actress Queen Latifah and singers Dionne Warwick and Renée Fleming will receive the 46th Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements.On Dec. 3, the group will be recognized in a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage by leading performers from from New York, Hollywood and the arts capitals of the world. “This year’s slate represents an extraordinary mix of individuals who have redefined their art forms and demonstrated remarkable tenacity and authenticity in becoming an original,” Kennedy Center president Deborah Rutter said in a statement.

The man is Ted Fulilove, which is a terrible last name for a movie character, though he’s played by Duchovny as a cussed crab apple with an amusing misanthropic put-down for every occasion (like: “Closure’s for morons”). “Bucky F*cking Dent” has a handful of characters, but it’s essentially a father-son two-hander — one of those dramadies in which the dad is a heartless-on-the-surface coot who was no good when it came to how he treated his family, and the son is a lot nicer and more sensitive, but maybe too sensitive (as a correction to all that paternal dickishness). Which also means that he’s lost.
