Country music’s biggest stars are honouring those affected by the mass school shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.

Wynonna Judd told ET on Sunday that her return to the CMT Music Awards is «bittersweet,» adding that she would use this weekend's award ceremony as an opportunity to help others struggling with their mental health. Wynonna and her late mother, Naomi Judd, delivered their first TV performance in two decades at last year's CMTs. That performance turned out to be the duo's final one together; Naomi died by suicide weeks later. «I'm going to use my time to talk to anyone out there who is struggling,» Wynonna told ET's Cassie DiLaura of her attendance at Sunday's awards.

On the collaborative front, Gwen Stefani will join recent No. 1 country hitmaker Carly Pearce for a duet of a yet-unannounced song. And Alanis Morissette will be joined on her original signature number, “You Oughta Know,” by four of country’s most compelling young artists — Morgan Wade, Madeline Edwards and chart-toppers Lainey Wilson and Ingrid Andress (plus guitarist Jackie Venson) — as part of a salute to the 10th anniversary of CMT’s Next Women of Country initiative. All four of Morissette’s singing counterparts on this collab came up being featured as part of the annual Next Women lineups.

Following Naomi's death last year, McBryde joined The Judds and they toured together as part of Wynonna's The Judds: The Final Tour, which continued as planned as a tribute to Naomi.Wynonna and McBryde recently kicked off the 2023 leg of the tour, which will also include Brandi Carlile, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town and Tanya Tucker for select dates. Naomi and Wynonna brought down the house at last year's CMT Awards with an unforgettable performance, which also marked their triumphant TV return after more than 20 years.

Country music singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson leads this year’s roster of CMT Music Awards nominations with a total of four nominations, including Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year, Collaborative Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year.

CMT Music Awards will have plenty of familiar faces — and a whole lot of new ones. Lainey Wilson leads the charge with four noms, including Performance of the Year and Female Video of the Year. Producers Mike Bosner and Jason Owen announced today that Shucked, a new original musical comedy with a book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie) and music by Nashville’s hit songwriting team Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally will open on Broadway this spring.

More acts will later be announced.  Country Thunder takes place from April 13 to April 16 at Canyon Moon Ranch in Florence, Arizona.  Luke Bryan is one of the performers who will be heading Country Thunder Arizonia 2023.

Ashley McBryde just released her latest album "Lindeville" and accepted an invitation from country music star Garth Brooks to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry, where McBryde first performed in 2017.  McBryde was completely shocked by the invitation, as it was presented to her during her interview with CBS Mornings, where she thought she would be talking about her new music, but it ended up being more than that.  During the interview, Brooks virtually dropped in from the Grand Ole Opry to share the news with McBryde. Ashley McBryde recently released her newest album "Lindeville."  (Erika Goldring/WireImage) "Miss Ashley McBryde, on behalf of the Opry and myself as an Opry member, I'm gonna try not to cry, we would love for you to consider becoming the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry," Brooks said.  McBryde took a deep breath and fought back tears as she responded to Brooks.  "It would be the great joy and the great honor of my life," McBryde answered.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Country singer Lainey Wilson’s very good year is getting just a little bit better, on top of her having the leading number of nominations for the CMA Awards and coming onto “Yellowstone” as a new cast member this season. CMT announced Wednesday that Wilson will be celebrated as Breakout Artist of the Year on the network’s “CMT Artists of the Year” special airing next week. “This past year has been a wild ride,” Wilson said in a statement. “To be considered for this award reinforces that the years of hard work my team and I have put in was all worth it. The team at CMT feels like family, and the way they genuinely support artists on their platform is so special and important for dreamers like me.”

Carrying on isn’t easy.

Wynonna Judd returned to stage for the first time as part of the 11-show stint with The Judds, a final tour which was initially scheduled as a series of reunion concerts including her mother and singing partner, Naomi Judd.  But weeks after the slate of programs was announced, Naomi died by suicide on April 30 at the age of 76. Wynonna enlisted the help of a few women in the industry to make sure the tour continued on as planned, only now more so to honor her mother for the trailblazing path she paved in the country community. "It’s devastatingly beautiful to go back to the past and relive some of these memories," Wynonna told the Associated Press said earlier this week after practicing on stage.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Ashley McBryde, one of the premium-grade country stars of the 21st century, is at the point in her career where many country stars would be playing it safer than ever. She’s in-between the second and third releases in her album cycle, a time when many would be most fixated on grabbing for the brass ring. Instead, she’s got brass balls, opting instead to put out a beautifully quirky concept album full of guest singers and co-writers called “Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville.” Please pardon the minor vulgarity in the preceding paragraph, but that’s partly the after-effect of listening to “Lindeville,” a character-driven set of songs whose protagonists tend to be on the straight-talking side, to the point of definitely including a few songs you will never hear on country radio. But “going for adds” is the furthest thing from the mind of an album that takes place entirely in a fictional small town where virtue is rarely the thing being modeled, and where even the local dogs are a little embarrassed about the array of sins they’ve witnessed.

Wilson came out ahead with six nominations when the Country Music Association announced the finalists Wednesday morning for its 56th annual awards show. Close behind with five nominations each was a quartet of contenders: Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Chris Stapleton and songwriter/producer Shane McAnally. Racking up a four-pack of nods were Cody Johnson and writer-producer Josh Osbourne. Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Hardy and Midland all came up as triple-nominees.
