Dragon filled Westeros is not as far from our own world as the fantasy show would have you believe. The wild waterways and sweeping landscapes are filmed much closer to home than fans might think.
Filming on location is common in big productions like House of the Dragon and some of the beautiful landscapes are actually Cornish beaches. While lots of filming takes place in the studios, the actors have been spotted out and about in their medieval garb at locations in England, Spain and Portugal.
The best part is these are places ordinary people can visit without needing to be cast in the fantasy epic. If you’re looking for a Thrones inspired holiday or just want to experience some stunning views, these are the filming locations for Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.

There are three major locations which have been used in England for filming House of the Dragon and that is Cornwall, the Peak District and Surrey. Some favourite locations returned from the original series too.
One UK on site filming location straddles the borders of Surrey and Hampshire and was home to what appeared to be a battle camp. A medieval camp was set up at Caesar's Camp in Aldershot in late September 2021.
While nothing was confirmed by the showrunners, a Warner Bros van was photographed at the site, as reported in HampshireLive. One picture on social media appeared to show the Targaryen sigil, a three-headed dragon, outside one of the tents.
