California Governor Gavin Newsom took to the podium Monday morning after a devastating weekend for the state that saw the all-time high number of cases on Friday of about 22,000, growing to over 30,000 by Sunday. A California sheriff said Monday he is not enforcing coronavirus related stay-at-home orders because they do not pass the "constitutional test." “It’s been a long year for everybody. We know that," Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes told “Fox & Friends" on Monday. "It’s been very impactful upon all of the businesses and residents of Orange County and California.

Republicans slammed President-elect Joe Biden after he announced his choice of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for secretary of Health and Human Services on Monday, and they criticized Becerra's record on abortion and other issues. Sen.Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said he would not vote to confirm Becerra, and pro-life group Susan B.

Officials have issued red flag warnings for parts of southern and central California as the state’s wildfire threat continues. “Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are forecast into Tuesday across southwestern California and the Bay Area due to dry conditions and strong offshore winds,” said the National Weather Service, in a statement.

A number of small earthquakes sent tremors through a number of California counties on Sunday morning. The strongest quake was a magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Lakeport in Northern California.

A small business owner said Sunday that California's new coronavirus shutdown may force him out of business.  Alex Miladi, the owner of a karate academy in South Yuba City, told "Fox & Friends" his business has already taken a 70% hit as a result of prior California lockdown measures to contain the virus. “This coming lockdown will pretty much put us out [of business],” he said.

A California man ended up in a brawl with a bear to save his best friend – a pit bull named “Buddy,” according to reports. Buddy was playing outside Kaleb Benham’s Nevada County home the day before Thanksgiving when Benham heard a growl and saw a bear had the dog in its mouth, CBS 13 Sacramento reported.
