Turns out Jeff Ross likely knew there might be friction if he told that Robert Kraft joke during Netflix’s live The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady.
Comedian Andy Schultz, who also participated in the event, says they were all warned away from the subject of the 2019 incident where the Patriots owner was accused of soliciting prostitution at a massage parlor in Florida.
“When Tom checked Jeff Ross, I think that was 100 percent real,” offered Schultz in a new interview. “The reason why I think it’s real is because they told us, ‘No jokes about happy endings with Bob Kraft.’ ”
Ross, it seems, went for it anyway.
“So Tom became a Patriot and moved up to New England, and on the first day of training camp, that scrawny rookie famously walked into the owner Robert Kraft’s office and said, ‘I’m the best decision your organization has ever made. Would you like a massage?’ ” Roastmaster General Ross joked at the top of the event.
Brady then got up from his seat and whispered to Ross live on air, “Never say that sh** again.”
Ross has since spoken about the moment. When asked on The Rich Eisen Show if he thought Brady was serious, Ross replied, “Come on, no way. He was having fun.”
Schultz thinks Brady was serious.
“He was ready to shut the whole thing down. That’s an alpha a** move right there.”
Nikki Glaser, another one of the featured comedians, agreed.
“I believe that was for real,” Glaser said on The Howard Stern Show. “Robert Kraft was not a confirmed guest to be there. I didn’t know he was going to be there until I was there. And I knew everyone else.”
