Today the main building functions as a space for private retreats, conferences, weddings and other events, but the grounds and ruins are open to visitors. Tickets cost £2 for adults, while there's free admission for children, concessions and seniors.

It's an atmospheric place and you can wander around the remains of the abbey walls, through archways and past impressive empty window frames. The ruins are surrounded by beautiful gardens, and there's an on site café so you can warm up with a cup of tea afterwards.
If you want to soak up more history, a few minutes’ walk from the ruins is the Whalley Abbey East Gatehouse, which is free to visit and is operated by English Heritage. The impact that the abbey and its monks had on the town can also be spotted along the river, where there’s a man made weir, supposedly where the monks collected water.
Dating back not quite as many centuries is the impressive Whalley Viaduct, built between 1846 and 1850. A sight which dominates the village, the 48-span bridge carries the Ribble Valley Line over the river, standing at 21.3m tall.
