Many British actors and actresses started their careers in the likes of EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale before moving onto bigger and better things in Hollywood.
While some make it big, others don't quite live up to expectations and often return to where they first started, The Mirror reports.
We've taken a look at actors who have broken into Hollywood, and a few who didn't succeed.
Ricky Whittle
Ricky, 40, played kind-hearted police officer Calvin Valentine in Hollyoaks between 2006 and 2011.
His romance with Carmel McQueen melted hearts in the nation, but Calvin later went off the rails and was brutally murdered by Theresa McQueen in heartbreaking scenes.
Since then, the 2009 Strictly Come Dancing runner-up has gone on to play the main role in US Starz drama American Gods, about warring modern day deities.
The star went through hell preparing for the part and pumped iron alongside Rocky legend Sylvester Stallone.
The show lasted from 2017 and 2021 and was nominated for a number of awards.
Ricky also spent three years in the post-nuclear war drama The 100 and two in the hot romantic US series Mistresses.
Nathalie Emmanuel
Nathalie played Sasha Valentine, the younger sister of Ricky's Calvin, in Hollyoaks, between 2006 and 2010, before she crossed the pond.
Sasha was at the centre of high profile storylines involving heroin addiction and binge drinking, before she left for London.
Nathalie, 33, went on to appear in The Maze Runner movies and the Fast & Furious blockbuster franchise, playing computer hacker Ramsey.
She is perhaps best known globally for playing Missandei, loyal alley of Daenerys Targaryen in HBO series Game of Thrones.
Nathalie stars in horror flick The Invitation, out now, and has a slew other projects

We're used to watching them on our television screens and are quick to presume they all get on away from the cameras, but for many TV stars that's not the case. From reality TV stars to soap actors, there's a number of famous faces who secretly don't get along, with some feuds even playing out in public. TOWIE stars Chloe Brockett and Ella Rae Wise's fiery feud has played out on-screen, while Geordie Shore's Charlotte Crosby and Vicky Pattison kept their rift under wraps during their time on the MTV show.
Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Last week’s Emmy awards saw big winners gush with gratitude over their agents, managers, and audiences, but there was one notable benefactor to many stars that went unthanked: the injectable drug semaglutide, whose brand name is Ozempic. The drug is an insulin regulator for the pre-diabetic, made by the Danish pharma juggernaut Novo Nordisk, whose primary side effect is dramatic weight loss. It has saturated the industry in recent months, helping the beautiful and wealthy shed extra pounds in the never-ending Los Angeles pastime of optimizing appearances. Hollywood nutritionist Matt Mahowald tells Variety that the chief benefits of the injections are “moderating and pulling back insulin secretion, and slowing down your stomach from emptying. It promotes satiation from food.”
Sylvester Stallone posted a picture on Instagram of himself and estranged wife Jennifer Flavin holding hands, just one month after their divorce filing.
They're some of the most well recognised faces on TV, but many popular soap stars are unrecognisable away from their on-screen personas. Stars of ITV's Coronation Street and Emmerdale, such as Millie Gibson and Bradley Johnson, continue to surprise fans when they share snaps on social media looking worlds away from their soap characters. EastEnders actresses including Lorraine Stanley and Natalie Cassidy have also shocked viewers in the past with their glamorous transformations, especially at red carpet events.
