His latest series – Into The Amazon With Robson Green –sees the actor and adventurer climb trees reaching 150ft in the air, tackle terrifying tarantulas and come face to face with deadly black caimans.
“There are things that can just eat you,” says Robson of the Amazon. “They’ll get hold of you, they’ll kill you and you’ll never be seen again.
There are caimans and spiders and anacondas and if they don’t like you, they’ll let you know about it.” But Robson’s worst wilderness encounter was when he accidentally stepped on a black wasps’ nest. “I stepped on what can only be described as a hornet’s nest,” says Robson.
“Let’s just say these black wasps that are really large, got really upset and decided to let me know how upset they were.
They got into my clothing and my hair and it really hurt.” As soon as he stepped on the nest, Robson’s guide yelled “run” and the whole crew scattered. “They would have beaten Usain Bolt in the 100m dash!” laughs Robson. “Chris, our sound man, was off like a gazelle, you couldn’t see him for dust! I got seven stings, all in the same place, in the head! They sting more than once and it hurts.” Coming face to face with a much bigger predator should have been terrifying for Robson, but meeting a black caiman just left him overwhelmed with awe.
“I remember being alongside black caiman. We were on this beautiful Amazonian boat and there’s a black caiman there and it’s about 14ft long. I’m just thinking that if that comes anywhere near me, it’s over, it really is ‘Goodnight
