The royal family came together to honor the passing of their matriarch Queen Elizabeth on Monday (September 19).

Meghan Markle offered a comforting smile to her niece Princess Charlotte after they left Westminster Abbey following the Queen's funeral on Monday morning. The young princess, 7, attended the funeral of her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth alongside her brother Prince George, 9. They spent a lot of time with their mother Kate, the Princess of Wales, 40, aunt Meghan, 41, and step-grandmother Camilla, Queen Consort, 75.

Watching the minute-by-minute coverage of the Queen's funeral isn't for everyone, however, some viewers couldn't resist commenting on the fact that Channel 5 took a different approach to its planned programming. Most of the complaints began during the procession transferring the Queen’s coffin from Westminster Hall, where it has been lying in state since Wednesday, to Westminster Abbey, where the funeral is taking place. The procession, which began around 10.45 a.m. in London (5.45 a.m. EST) was led by military personnel and included the Queen’s children King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and her grandchildren Prince William, Prince Harry and Peter Phillips, who followed the gun carriage bearing her coffin.

On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II died “peacefully” at age 96 and Britain entered 10 days of mourning to honor her 70 years of service as the head of the monarchy. The details of her funeral raise the question as to where the Queen will be buried, and it’s a location steeped in royal history dating back to 1475.

The King has issued a message of thanks to the nation on the eve of the Queen’s state funeral. Charles, 73, said he wanted, “as we all prepare to say our last farewell”, to offer his gratitude to “all those countless people who have been such a support and comfort to my Family and myself in this time of grief”.

Queen Elizabeth II’s family are expected to show up in numbers for her state funeral taking place on Monday 19 September at Westminster Abbey in London. On the morning of Monday 19 September, the lying-in-State period will end and the Queen’s Coffin will be taken in Procession from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey, where the State Funeral Service will take place. Her Majesty’s immediate family including King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Harry and Meghan will be in attendance along with the Queen’s children; Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Anne, Princess Royal.

The Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drama continued into the weekend as it wasn’t clear if the Sussexes would be attending a pre-funeral reception at Buckingham Palace on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – who settled in California after stepping down as senior royals in 2020 – reportedly initially received an invitation to the Sunday evening reception, but conflicting reports said they were and weren’t expected to attend.  According to the Telegraph, they have now been uninvited because palace officials insisted that the reception hosted by King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, is only for working royals, which Harry and Meghan are not. Queen Elizabeth II died on Sept. 8 at the age of 96, and the royal family has now announced that the funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 19 at 6 a.m.

Kate Middleton paid tribute to both Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana at the late monarch's procession in London on 14 September. Much like the rest of the royal family, the new princess was wearing all-black with large, circle sunglasses—probably in an attempt to give her a bit of privacy from the British press during the family's difficult time. The duchess, who did not see the former Queen before her death in Scotland, and instead stayed home with the children she shares with Prince William.
