Princess Anne put on a brave face as she walked behind the Queen's coffin in Edinburgh after emotional journey from Balmoral. Often described as the hardest working royal, Anne, 73, remained stoic while she marched behind the hearse of her late mother with brothers King Charles III, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
Despite the tragic circumstances, the Princess Royal, the Queen's only daughter, showed grace and decorum in the procession from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles’ Cathedral, where a service of thanksgiving was held. Anne wore the four Jubilee medals – Silver, Golden, Diamond and Platinum – as well as a Queen’s Service Order, a Coronation medal, a Long Service and Good Conduct medal, a Canadian Forces Decoration, an Order of St John Service medal and a New Zealand 1990 medal.
She also displayed three decorations: the Most Notable Order of the Garter, the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle and the Royal Victorian Order. Princess Anne was personally selected by her mother to accompany her on the final emotional journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh alongside her funeral cortège on Sunday. The six hour journey marked the first leg of the coffin’s journey back to London.
Anne was driven in a royal Bentley during the funeral procession, with her husband of 30 years Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence supporting her throughout the difficult time. Edward's wife Sophie Wessex, 57, was seen comforting the Princess Royal as the coffin was carried into Holyrood house after the drive from Balmoral.
