Former Pop Idol star Darius Campbell Danesh died from “inhalation of chloroethane”, the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed.The singer and actor was found dead in his US apartment, in Rochester, Minnesota, last month at the age of 41. Autopsy documents obtained by the PA news agency listed “toxic effects of chloroethane” as well as “suffocation” as having contributed to his death.The death was ruled an accident by the medical examiner. Darius was laid to rest in Scotland on Thursday 25 August in a private service for family and friends.
Hollywood actor Gerard Butler was among the 100 people who attended the service. It was held at Bearsden Cross Parish Church in Darius' hometown of Glasgow. A lone piper played one of the singer's favourite songs, Caledonia, during the procession.
Following the news of his death, a statement said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh. Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office. “The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances.The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.
“We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.” Tributes quickly poured in for the singer as celebrity friends flocked to social media.
