Police have issued an update after investigating possible gunshots which were reported on a quiet Stockport street. Officers descended on Dorac Avenue, in Heald Green, on Thursday, July 7.
Greater Manchester Police was called out to the scene shortly after midnight that morning and a cordon remained in place for several hours. Evidence was gathered from the scene as police launched an investigation into whether gunshots had been fired.
On Saturday (July 16), GMP issued an update on the investigation. Following enquiries, police now do not believe the incident was a shooting.

Instead, officers believe the sound to have been the noise caused by damage to a vehicle. The Manchester Evening News understands a van which appeared to have a shattered windscreen had been parked up inside the cordon while police investigated the scene.
Further details about the incident and the vehicle which was damaged have not been confirmed by GMP at this stage. No injuries were reported following the incident.
Speaking on the day officers were at the scene, one resident told the Manchester Evening News : "We were told somebody's van was broken into, but there's obviously a lot more to it than that because [police] have been scouring up and down the road. We just didn't know what was going on.
"The road was cordoned off from 1am. They said they would be there until between 4pm and 5pm, but I just heard one of my neighbours shout 'freedom at last' [at 1pm]. We've not been able to get in or out."
