Plans for a new £30m four-star hotel on Blackpool Promenade have been unveiled. The 184-bed hotel would be run by Fragrance Group and based on the site of the former St Chad's Hotel, which shut in 2021.
Blackpool Council has granted permission to demolish St Chad's, the Lyric Hotel, Regency Apartments, and the Seaside Fish and Chip Shop located between the Promenade, Woodfield Street, St Chad's Road, and Bolton Street. The site was cleared in May.
After St Chad's shut due to insolvency, the building was used for training exercises by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Lancashire Police.
Martin Rogers, from Fragrance Group, who already own The Imperial Hotel and the Lyndene Hotel, said: "Our acquisitions in Blackpool over recent years show that we are committed to the area, and believe in its long-term potential. Because of this, we are prepared to invest in high-quality hotel facilities which will improve the resort's offer, attracting longer-term guests throughout the year and providing more than 40 permanent long-term jobs."

Mr Rogers added: "The old hotel was no longer fit for purpose. It would have been uneconomical to attempt to refurbish it, and it could not have met the standards expected by today's guests.
"The proposed investment of around £30 million reflects Fragrance Group's ambition to act as a catalyst for the wider improvement of the Promenade and enhance Blackpool's offerings to visitors. The company is engaging with hotel neighbors, key stakeholders, and the public to gather feedback before submitting a planning permission application to Blackpool Council."

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Monday that extends the state’s $330 million tax incentive for film and TV production. The program will be extended for five years through 2030. For the first time, the credit will be refundable, meaning that companies like Netflix that have little or no state tax liability can receive cash back from the state. That change has been estimated to cost $200 million. The bill is the result of more than a year of bargaining between Hollywood studios, entertainment unions and state lawmakers. In addition to extending the credit, the bill also includes an incentive for productions to hire a diverse workforce, both on screen and behind the camera.
