Based on the novel by Delia Owens, Where the Crawdads Sing is a mystery that stars Daisy as Kya, a young woman who has been raised in a shack by her family on a North Carolina marsh.
The movie begins in 1953, as Kya’s mother and her older siblings leave the home one by one until she is alone with her alcoholic father, who has gambled away any money that the family had.
He abandons her when she is just seven years old, and Kya grows up by selling mussels at a store in the nearby town where people know her as the harmless ‘marsh girl.’ However, after a man she has been seen with is found dead at the bottom of a fire tower, Kya becomes the prime suspect in his murder. Since the movie premiered on Netflix, viewers have taken to social media to share their feelings after watching it.

I need therapy now,” while another commented: “Where the Crawdads Sing has me on the floor I won’t ever move on,” and a third added: “Thought I’d make it a week without crying but I just watched Where the Crawdads Sing so there goes that goal.” Others agreed that the film was moving with one saying it was “lowkey gut-wrenching” and another warning: “Where the Crawdads Sing I did not expect that twist at the end.” The movie did get some bad reviews when it was originally released in the summer of 2022, with one critic describing it as an “uncompromisingly terrible southern gothic schmaltzer… a relentless surge of solemnly ridiculous nonsense” and another writing that it was “downright cringey.” However, it was a success

Doug Belgrad is joining Netflix as Vice President of Film. He’s Dan Lin‘s first hire after Lin replaced Scott Stuber and laid off a bunch of staff.
