Metrolink announces return of later running trams on Fridays and Saturdays
19.09.2023 - 17:57
Metrolink trams will run until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays from later this month, transport bosses have announced.
Services will run every 20 minutes between midnight and close to 1am, with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) saying exact departure times would vary depending on the line and stop.
The later-running trams will take to the tracks across the network from September 29. Pre-Covid services saw frequencies of every 12 minutes up to 1am on Metrolink.

Danny Vaughan, head of Metrolink at Transport for Greater Manchester, said: "We are partially reintroducing the 1am finish on Friday and Saturday nights. It is only on a 20-minute frequency for now. We will look to make an improvement on that later in the year."
Metrolink has also announced it will also bring back the MediaCityUK to Etihad Campus peak service later this month.
It will be reintroduced on Monday, September 25 following the completion of engineering works between Eccles and Weaste. Trams will run every 12 minutes between 7am and 8pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am until 6.30pm on Saturdays. The change means there will be a six minute service at peak times between Harbour City and Etihad Campus.
Mr Vaughan said the reintroduction comes after passenger numbers showed demand between the Etihad and MediaCityUK had recently returned to pre-pandemic levels.
It will provide more capacity between Manchester city centre and the Etihad Stadium during the busy times, but Metrolink said it would continue to use special services to add more seats for football matches or events outside of the peak
