The weather in the UK has seen temperatures reach record highs in some parts of the country this week. On Tuesday, the Met Office announced that for the first time ever in England temperatures went above the 40 Celsius mark, with Heathrow seeing a high of 40.2C. The Met Office has warned of thunderstorms following the high temperatures after temperatures in the country were hotter than tropical destinations such as Jamaica and Barbados.
While there has been a break from the extremely hot temperatures, experts have warned that it’s not over yet and once the thunderstorms are cleared, the hot weather will be back. The Met Office's 10-day forecast predicts storms in parts on Friday, before warmer air moves in on Saturday and Sunday. Highs of 31C are expected across the South East by Sunday, as the weekend ends on a sunny high.
Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said: "There's the potential for some thunderstorms on Friday - and then the warm air is tucked in across parts of England and Wales for Saturday and Sunday. "So temperatures could tick up back to the high 20s, possible even the low 30s across East Anglia on Sunday. "But it's going to be quite a contrast, with much cooler conditions further north and in the north West." Speaking of the heatwaves, natural hazards expert Prof Hannah Cloke, said: "We’re going to hopefully see an end to this in a couple of days time but there is a remaining risk of going back up again in a week or so afterwards.
