Mac Demarco teams up with Alan Palomo on ‘Nudista Mundial ’89’

Kumar Mangat Pathak’s Mumbai-based Panorama Studios is teaming with South Korea’s Anthology Studios, co-founded by former Warner Bros exec Jay Choi, Cobweb director Kim Jee-woon and Parasite star Song Kang-ho, on a Korean-language remake of India’s Drishyam franchise. 

McKinley Franklin editor Snoop Dogg’s Doggyland has teamed up with the popular animated sing-along series Gracie’s Corner to release a collection of empowering children’s videos, Variety can exclusively reveal. Led by Graceyn “Gracie” Hollingsworth and the Bow Wizzle character, voiced by rap icon Snoop Dogg, the series of educational videos will provide knowledge to children through song, rap and dance.  Together, Gracie and Bow Wizzle will spread joy through the medium of music to instill confidence, self-worth and critical thinking skills into children through an installment of two animated videos for the title track “Girl Power,” a youthful girl power anthem. The 2D version will be accessible on the Gracie’s Corner YouTubechannel with the second 3D reiteration going live on Doggyland’s channel.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Mk2 Films is set to reunite with Joachim Trier following “The Worst Person in the World,” the Norwegian helmer’s Cannes prize-winning and Oscar-nominated romantic comedy which was also a worldwide box-office hit. The Paris-based company will handle international sales and co-produce alongside Juliette Schrameck at Agat Films, who was also a co-producer on “The Worst Person in the World,” alongside Nathanaël Karmitz and Elisha Karmitz for MK Production. Mk2 films, Schrameck and the Karmitz brothers join producers Maria Ekerhovd at Mer Film and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar at Eye Eye Pictures.  Trier is writing his untitled sixth feature with his long-term collaborator Eskil Vogt, with whom he shared an Oscar nomination for best screenplay. “It is an ambitious yet playful family drama. An intimate, moving, and often funny film about family, memory, and how we need to rewrite the stories we tell about ourselves in order to survive,” said the pair.

Naman Ramachandran Bonafide Films, the award-winning production company behind “Mood” and “The Last Post,” has revealed a development and distribution deal with BBC Studios. As part of the agreement, BBC Studios will invest in Bonafide’s development slate, and will also have first look agreement on distribution rights for all projects. “Mood,” Nicôle Lecky’s BAFTA and RTS-winning TV adaptation of her acclaimed play, “Superhoe” was a co-commission from BBC and AMC and BBC Studios brokered the co-production deal for Bonafide with AMC and also secured sales to 12 territories internationally. “The Last Post” is by screenwriter Peter Moffatt (“Your Honor”).

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Russell Crowe will receive the Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival (June 30-July 8). The Oscar winning actor will also deploy his musical talent with his band Indoor Garden Party, which will perform at the festival’s opening night concert. The festival also revealed Friday that Johnny Depp would appear in its trailer, which will have its premiere at the opening ceremony. Crowe, who was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia at an early age, began his acting career at the age of 6, working in TV and theater. In 1989, he started working in Australian films, with “The Crossing” (1990, dir. George Ogilvie), “Proof” (1991, dir. Jocelyn Moorhouse), and “Romper Stomper” (1992, dir. Geoffrey Wright). He won two Australian Academy Awards: supporting actor for “Proof” and best actor for “Romper Stomper.”

Vary Senior Entertainment Writer “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is the latest marquee TV series to move forward with production amid the ongoing WGA strike, but the Amazon Prime Video show will be doing so without the services of executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. The sweeping fantasy series has 19 days of filming remaining, sources confirm to Variety, but per WGA strike rules, Payne, McKay and any other writer-producers are barred from participating in any writing-based duties during production while the strike continues — including making creative decisions on set. Instead, the show’s non-writing executive producers (like Lindsey Weber), directors (Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper) and crew are overseeing production on the U.K.-based shoot.

BreAnna Bell Netflix has renewed “Sweet Tooth” for a third and final season, which has already been filmed in New Zealand, the streamer announced. “In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life.
