Councillor Peter Johnston has stepped down after 35 years representing the people of Livingston.
And last month colleagues of all political colours queued up to pay tribute to the retiring leader of the SNP group on West Lothian Council.
He served two terms as council leader and as group leader for 28 years.
Mr Johnston was struck by serious illness in 2018, and while he has made a remarkable recovery he has reluctantly decided it is time to retire.
