Kimberley Walsh is reflecting on the pressures of being a pop star in the noughties and marvelling at how beauty standards have changed when we catch up with her. “Differences are welcome now,” says the former Girls Aloud singer. “Not everyone is trying to fit in a box.
It’s a nice thing if you’ve got your own vibe. That’s celebrated now.” It’s with this in mind that Kimberley has developed her new autumn collection, Styled For You, with Dorothy Perkins – boasting designs aimed at dressing every frame. Here, Kimberley, 40, talks us through her timeless capsule collection, how she loves her body more since becoming a mum to Bobby, eight, Cole, five, and Nate, 16 months, and coping with her grief since the loss of Sarah Harding a year on.… Hi Kimberley! What did you have in mind when curating this collection? Taking all women into account and making it a good mix for all occasions – whether it’s a date night or a night out with the girls. What’s your favourite piece? I love the dresses. They’re all flattering.
I love the bright pink dress with the keyhole and there’s such a strong coat collection. Why is representing all body shapes so important to you? It’s important to me to be true to what my life is and be realistic. I look at people on social media and sometimes feel inadequate.
What makes you feel that way? I’m a mum of three, juggling work and school, and I do find it hard. I don’t have a nanny or housekeepers, so I always feel I’m just a breath away from really messing up. So for me, it’s when I see those working mums who appear to have everything covered, and still leave the house looking immaculate, and have their children looking immaculate for 24 hours every day, or they’re getting up at 6am to work out before
