Kate Middleton once revealed how a sweet gesture to son Prince George ended in disaster when she tried to pick up a new skill. The Princess of Wales is well-known for being a very involved mum, devoting all of her time out with her royal duties to children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Despite growing up in the public eye, she is determined to give the royal youngsters a normal childhood, with she and Prince William said to be very hands-on parents. So much so, that during a past visit to Glasgow, Kate revealed that she had attempted to learn a special skill when she was pregnant with oldest son George.
She taken up the hobby to make the future-king a special gift for when he was born, the Mirror reports. However, her plan went slightly awry when she quickly released that she was "really bad" at the craft - and ended up having to scrap the present completely.
So what was it that she tried to learn? Well, it turns out it was knitting. Kate first revealed she was trying her hand at knitting way back in 2013 when she was pregnant with George.
According to Hello!, she told a group of royal fans while visiting Glasgow: "I've been trying to knit and I'm really bad. I should be asking for tips!"
In 2020, during a trip to Bradford, Kate visited Older Yet Wiser - an organisation that supports grandparents - and met with some grandmothers who were showing off their crocheting skills. And there she confessed that her attempts to knit George a jumper had completely failed.
She told the group: "I tried knitting when I first had George. I tried to knit him a very special jumper, but I got halfway down and it splattered. It's such an amazing skill."
