Julia Bradbury opens up on cancer journey: 'Telling my kids was the hardest thing'

In September 2021, TV favourite Julia Bradbury was busy filming a series on forests and trees for ITV’s This Morning, when she received an email that would change her life. A week earlier she had undergone a biopsy on a lump in her left breast and the message informed her that the results were in. Away from home and worried it might be bad news, she delayed a phone call with her consultant until she returned – and she was glad that she did, because her diagnosis left her floored.
She was told she had cancer, and it was a large tumour that would require emergency surgery as soon as possible to remove her breast. Her world stopped, as she digested the implications, not only for her but for her family – her partner, Gerard, and their three young children, Zephyrus, 10, and seven-year-old twins, Xanthe and Zena. Her immediate thought was, “I’ve got to live”– the idea of leaving her children was unthinkable.
