Jamie Carragher has offered a boost to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City before Liverpool resume their Premier League battle with the Blues next month.
Following yet another gripping season last time out, City walked away with a fourth title in five years — but only did so by a single point. Both clubs have strengthened during the summer transfer window, too, while also letting long-serving members of their squads leave.
Guardiola won the race for Erling Haaland and has also signed England midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer while Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Oleksandr Zinchenko moved in the other direction. Liverpool, meanwhile, offset Sadio Mane's exit by signing Uruguay star Darwin Nunez.

Nunez scored 34 goals in 41 games for Benfica last season. However, while the Reds broke their transfer record to sign him — in an outlay that could reach £85million with adds-ons — Carragher suggests there is no guarantee Liverpool will come back stronger in their bid to capture a second Premier League crown.
Speaking to radio station talkSPORT, the pundit said: "I think that remains to be seen. When you lose someone like Mane, who has been so pivotal for four or five years, and you're bringing in a sort of unknown quantity in Nunez.
"He looks a top player and has great pedigree — and Liverpool did need to bring the average age of that front-three down. It's difficult to say they look stronger right now, considering how good Mane was, certainly in the second half of last season.
"But also I'm really excited to see how they evolve with Nunez. It's interesting to see the change of the dynamics of the team and, if it makes Liverpool better, then who knows?"
