UPDATED, 11:45 AM: The man arrested and charged in the shooting death of Jacqueline Avant, the philanthropist and wife of celebrated music executive Clarence Avant, changed his plea to guilty today.
Aariel Maynor of Los Angeles, 30, pleaded guilty today to murder and other counts that could see him face up to 170 years to life when he is sentenced March 30. Maynor previously pleaded not guilty on December 17 of last year in Avant’s death, which occurred during a robbery at the couple’s Trousdale Estates home in Beverly Hills Dec. 1.
PREVIOUSLY on Dec. 16: After week’s worth of court delays, an ex-convict pleaded not guilty today to murder and other counts in the shooting death of Jacqueline Avant, wife of celebrated music executive Clarence Avant, during a robbery at the couple’s Trousdale Estates home in Beverly Hills.
Aariel Maynor of Los Angeles, 29, is charged in the slaying of Jacqueline Avant, 81, who was shot at about 2:25 a.m. Dec. 1 inside her home.
He is also accused of shooting at a security guard — who was not wounded — during the robbery, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Maynor was charged Dec. 6 with one count each of murder, attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of residential burglary with a person present. His first appearance in court was set to be last Tuesday, but was delayed multiple times over the past week.
The criminal complaint also includes an allegation that Maynor used an assault long barrel pistol during the crimes.
