Gavin Newsom drew attention Wednesday to what he sees as serious moment in U.S. politics in which some right-leaning politicians are “on the spectrum of authoritarianism.”“It is about liberalism versus illiberalism.
It’s not just about right and left,” the California governor said at Vox Media’s Code Conference in Los Angeles. “These guys are out there on the spectrum of authoritarianism,” he said, noting that he sees the statement as a “mild” not hyperbolic statement. The California governor, who has been outspoken in his ongoing feud with Florida Gov.
Ron DeSantis, also positioned his state in direct opposition to conservatism. “Conservatism can’t succeed unless California fails,” he said. While Code Conference host Kara Swisher began Michelle Obama’s iconic line, “When they go low, we go high,” Newsom disagreed, noting that there is a “ruthlessness” to the right that must be fought.
Newsom instead said that politicians can adopt that belief in “the world we want to live [and] in a world we should aspire to, but we gotta be hard headed pragmatist in the world we’re actually in in the moment.”“It’s a whole different thing that we’re experiencing, a completely different thing,” he said in reference to the current political moment, “and it’s something I’ve never experienced in my lifetime, now.”Instead, when they go low, “we do what we need to do to protect people,” the governor said. “I don’t like bullies, not only people talking down other people, people talking for other people,” he said, before calling out a Republican bill that enables schools to check a students’ genitalia to ensure they are the appropriate sex before beginning a high school sports team, a bill Newsom says “demonizes the LGBTQ community.”During this

Kim Kardashian had a little problem finding her balance in a Dolce & Gabbana number during Milan Fashion Week! On Monday, the 41-year-old star shared a hilarious video of her struggling to get from the stairs to the car -- following an after-party for the fashion house's presentation on Saturday. The clip begins with the SKIMS founder -- who wears a sparkly silver form-fitting dress by the designer -- shuffling her feet as she makes her way to a set of stairs, where she has to do a single hop to get to the first couple of steps while she holds on to the railing.
challenged to a debate last week. The governors’ feud escalated recently when DeSantis used part of his state’s $12 million budget allocated for relocating “unauthorized aliens” to fly 50 refugees into Martha’s Vineyard, a Democratic jurisdiction.

Liza Foreman Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger turned out at the San Sebastian Film Festival on Saturday to support the world premiere of Neil Jordan’s “Marlowe,” which closes the festival tonight. Jordan and William Monahan’s adaptation of John Banville’s novel “The Black-Eyed Blonde” centers Raymond Chandler’s famous detective Philip Marlowe, and – like Chandler’s books – is set in 1930s Los Angeles. Jordan said it was confusing to call it a film noir. “First of all, it’s shot in color,” he said. Even though it is set in the past, it’s a futuristic film that provided his reference point for the look of this one.
“The View” on Wednesday dove into the ongoing debate over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ stunt in which he flew two planeloads of Venezuelan migrants from his state to Martha’s Vineyard as a ploy to draw attention to the ongoing immigrant crisis on the southern border. While it’s been a hot-button issue this week with voices on both sides denouncing the action as questionable or even illegal – a Texas sheriff has opened a case against DeSantis to determine if he misled the migrants into boarding the planes and therefore broke the law – but conservative co-host of “The View” Alyssa Farah Griffin indicated that she thinks it’s time to move on and focus on a solution.

With Gavin Newsom currently holding a 27-point lead in the race for California’s top office, the Golden State governor — who continues to deny national political ambitions — is again leveraging his campaign war chest to confront Republican governors in their own states.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is calling for an investigation into whether federal laws were broken in the actions by Texas and Florida to send migrants to other states, the most recent being Gov. Ron DeSantis’ who sent two planes to Martha’s Vineyard, MA.
The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday night. And if previous Emmy moments are an indication of what’s to come, this year’s show should be full of surprises.
