The plucky new comedy “Space Cadet,” from Stampede Ventures, has added more star power to a fleet led by the previously announced Emma Roberts. While character details are under wraps, Gabrielle Union will join Roberts in the film about a Florida party girl who turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program, after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates. They may have better resumes, but not her smarts, heart and moxie. Liz. W. Garcia is directing form her own script, which we pray will feel like “Legally Blonde” in space. Tom Hopper (“The Umbrella Academy,” “Love in the Vila”) also comes aboard with Colombian pop star Sebastián Yatra (Spain’s “The Voice Kids”), sketch veteran David Foley (“The Kids in the Hall”) and Desi Lydic (“The Daily Show”).

As Ellis French, Pope takes the lead of Elegance Bratton’s moving directorial and writing debut “The Inspection,” which had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The A24 film, inspired by true events, is a showcase for Pope and full of “Oscar-clip-worthy” scenes. We’ll see how the circuit treats the film, as Pope will be battling with bigger names such as Hugh Jackman and Colin Farrell for recognition.

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade spent the Labor Day weekend with their youngest daughter, Kaavia, for an adorable mini vacation. The couple took to Instagram to share several beachside photos, showing the trio on their balcony and also relaxing in the sand. In one photo, the 3-year-old is sandwiched between her parents as they beam at the camera, and in a selfie taken by Wade, she sits on her mom's lap in a beach chair as they pose with their hands in the air.«Our favorite place in the world, is wherever we’re together,» Union captioned the sweet gallery of photos.A post shared by Gabrielle Union-Wade (@gabunion)But the fun comes with a price! EJ Panaligan editor Mikhail Gorbachev, the Russian politician who served as the eighth and final leader of the Soviet Union, has died at the age of 91, according to the Associated Press. The Central Clinical Hospital in Russia provided a statement to Russian news organizations that Gorbachev died after suffering from an undisclosed, long-term illness. Gorbachev served as the leader of the Soviet Union during its demise in 1991. He resigned on Christmas of that year after spending the last few months in office watching different republics declare independence. His initiatives and reforms led to the end of the Cold War but resulted in the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev has died at age 91, according to Russian news agencies. His cause of death was not immediately released, but Gorbachev's office had said earlier that he was undergoing treatment at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow, according to The Associated Press.Gorbachev served as the eighth and final General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991.

Last week, the 49-year-old actress teased fans on Twitter when she shared an idea for a sequel to the 2000 film that kicked off a cheerleading phenomenon.Union starred as Isis, the head cheerleader for the East Compton Clovers, opposite Kirsten Dunst's Torrance Shipman, newly minted head cheerleader for the Toros from Rancho Carne High School in San Diego. Isis and Torrance locked horns when Torrance learned that her team had been stealing their winning routines from Isis' Clovers. was followed by six direct-to-video sequels, none of which featured appearances from the original cast. Thursday marked the 22nd anniversary of the film's release, and Union responded to a tweet celebrating the occasion by noting that the length of time had interesting implications for the film's characters.

With “Bring It On” having celebrated its 22nd anniversary earlier this week, one of the film’s stars is sharing an idea for a potential sequel to the beloved cheerleader comedy.
