Erik ten Hag insists his Manchester United players have proved they are fighting for the shirt in recent games despite admitting to collective disappointment at the way they folded at Crystal Palace last week.
United were thrashed 4-0 at Selhurst Park and seemed to go down to a 13th Premier League defeat of the season without much of a fight. But Ten Hag pointed to the run of fixtures before Palace to prove there is great "team spirit" within the ranks, mentioning the phrase three times in the course of his answer and pointing to six out of seven games between the 1-1 draws with Brentford on March 30 and Burnley on April 27.
That includes the latest collapse to defeat from a winning position in Premier League history at Chelsea, while Ten Hag also mentioned the 3-3 draw with Coventry in the FA Cup semi-final, when United surrendered a three-goal lead in the final 20 minutes before winning on penalties.

The Dutchman also pointed to the constant battle with injuries this season as evidence that his squad have maintained their fighting spirit during difficult circumstances.
“If I look at the problems we have faced and all the injuries, and in almost every game they’ve fought. There has been great team spirit – not on Monday [against Crystal Palace] and that is why I was disappointed," said Ten Hag. "Monday I was really disappointed and the players were disappointed with themselves, there was a collective failure.
