Dan Walker only announced his BBC Breakfast on Monday but his seat had already been filled... sort of. The presenter announced the news that he was quitting the early morning news programme after six years on social media earlier this week.
He revealed that he'll now be swapping mornings for the afternoon as the host of Channel 5's revamped 5 News. He will replace Sian Williams after she announced she was stepping down earlier last month.
Dan joined the programme back in 2016 to host the early morning news programme alongside Louise Minchin. His exit comes seven months after his former co-host spent her last day hosting the programme, 20 years after first joining, after announcing her own exit a few months earlier.

Dan, who also left his role on Football Focus last year, said "it’s been a massive decision" for him to leave his job at the BBC for a new role but that "the chance to do something different was too good to turn down." He also addressed his departure upon his return to the famous red sofa on Tuesday (April 5) after being accused of being 'motivated by money'.
While his last day is still unclear, with Dan just saying that he'll be leaving the BBC "in the next few weeks", attention has turned to his replacement and during Wednesday's edition of BBC Breakfast, on April 6, someone did briefly step into the role.
