Coming to Netflix in April 2022: Russian Doll Season 2 and the Grace and Frankie Finale

The stars are stepping out for a Russian Doll event!

Angelique Jackson It’s been three whole years since audiences experienced the psychedelic dramedy of “Russian Doll,” but, if the rapturous response to the Netflix show’s Season 2 trailer is any indication, fans are more than ready to jump into a new adventure with the show’s co-creator, executive producer, director, writer, showrunner and star Natasha Lyonne.“It’s scary releasing trailers and things like that, because you’re trying to figure out the right amount [to show], if you want people to be able to go in cold,” Lyonne told Variety at a rooftop celebration for the show at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel on Friday night. “And yet, there’s a thirst, a hunger that dictates that this is the way that we do things.” The clip in question reintroduces Lyonne’s onscreen alter ego Nadia Vulvokov, who’s emerged from the first season’s purgatorial storyline only to find herself transported back to 1980s New York.

Laura Dern (Jurassic World Dominion) and Liam Hemsworth (Poker Face) have signed on to star in the film Lonely Planet, which Susannah Grant (Unbelievable) is writing and directing for Netflix.

It’s really been a long minute since we had any “Russian Doll,” Netflix’s hit hipster series about a woman living on New York’s Lower East Side in the early aughts who gets caught in some strange time loop where she keeps on reliving the same day over and over again. Created by writer/director Leslye Headland and its star Natasha Lyonne, “Russian Doll” was quite the cultural sensation when it first arrived in 2019.

“Outer Range” might be a little hard to describe, but no, worry not, this is not “Cowboys & Aliens.” Well, it could be, but don’t worry, this will not be a big, silly mix-and-match genre blockbuster. Created by Brian Watkins for Amazon Prime, instead, the series is a mystery thriller drama about a rancher who uncovers a strange phenomenon in the wilderness of Wyoming.

series is set to end later this month, when the second installment of the final season debuts on the streamer. On Monday, Netflix released a series of images from Season 7 Part 2.One shot promises shenanigans, with Jane Fonda’s Grace and Lily Tomlin’s Frankie several margaritas deep at a Mexican restaurant. Or, in Grace’s case, just one jumbo margarita.

“Ozark” fans, rejoice. The Jason Bateman and Julia Garner-starring drama series is returning to Netflix in April with a second part to its fourth season — and it’s just one of many other hotly anticipated titles coming to the streamer this month. April will also see the long-awaited sophomore installment to “Russian Doll,” the mind-bending “Groundhog Day”-esque dramedy series starring Natasha Lyonne as a hard-partying New York City woman stuck in a brain-melting circuitous loop from hell. For fans of capital-M mess, there’s the Spanish-language “Elite,” which traces the scandalous (and often murderous) exploits of the posh attendees of high school Las Encinas.
