Twitter cries foul over ‘racist’ incident at Little League World Series

Little League World Series, which is played in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and broadcast on ESPN, is known for producing its fair share of viral moments, courtesy of groups of giddy 12-year-old baseball players from around the country. But one such moment caught on camera has social media spectators crying foul ball, leveling accusations of racism against the youths.During the ESPN broadcast of the MLB Little League Classic between the Orioles and Red Sox, white players from the Davenport, Iowa, team representing the Midwest region were shown on camera topping their black teammate’s hair with the stuffing from a plush animal.“History is literally repeating itself, and not the good kind, either,” said one Twitter user, disturbed by the images. Little League officials said the actions by the boys had “no ill-intent.”Did anyone else just see this on the Little League World Series?! They was stuffing the black boy hair with cotton!!! #LLWS pic.twitter.com/nRVJpw6FJj“After speaking with the team, as well as reviewing photos, multiple players on the Midwest region team were taking part in this while enjoying the game,” Little League said in a statement.“As only one player appeared on the broadcast, Little League International understands the actions could be perceived as racially insensitive,” officials said.

Netflix Expected to Maintain Lead in Arab SVOD Market Amid Double Digit Growth, Analyst Predicts

Nick Vivarelli International CorrespondentStreamer subscriptions across the Arab world are expected to more than double over the next five years  with current regional market leader Netflix remaining firmly ahead of the pack.According to a study conducted across 13 Arabic countries by London-based research firm Digital TV Research paid SVOD subs in the Middle East region are set to rise from 9.49 million in 2021 to 21.5 million by 2027.Amid this double digit growth “Netflix will continue to lead the market, although Disney+ has provided a strong challenge since [entering the market in] June,” the firm’s chief analyst Simon Murray said.Murray interestingly added that “We assume that Netflix and Disney+ will add hybrid ad-supported tiers in a pan-Arabic platform [starting] from 2024.” Digital TV Research projects that by 2027 Disney+ will reach roughly 3,3 million subs across Arab territories. That means that, despite its fast growth, Disney+ will remain behind StarzPlay Arabia – which was launched in 2015 as the first Starz-branded SVOD outside the U.S. – and is now expected to rise to 3,4 million customers by 2027 from roughly 2 million subs in 2021.Meanwhile Netflix is projected by the study to rise to more than 5,4 million customers in Arab countries by 2027 from 3.5 million subs in 2021.The U.S.

Pennsylvania Governor Signs Executive Order Banning Conversion Therapy

executive order barring conversion therapy, which attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, for people of all ages.Taking unilateral action after the failure of the Republican-led legislature to even consider bills seeking to ban conversion therapy for minors, Wolf has directed state agencies to discourage the practice and instead promote evidence-based practices for supporting LGBTQ individuals who may be struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity. The order also directs the state’s Department of Human Services, Insurance Department, and other agencies to ensure state funds, programs, and contracts are not being used to subject minors to conversion therapy, refer people to therapists who engage in the practice, or provide reimbursement for the therapy. It also directs agencies to investigate any reports of claims that have been paid for conversion therapy through the state’s Medicaid program, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or private insurance. The order ensures training for child welfare staff to support LGBTQ youth and their families, and sets the stage for licensing boards to discipline health professionals who violate ethical or professional standards by providing the therapy.
