Broadway Producers “Cautiously Optimistic” As Attendance Holds Steady Against Coronavirus Concerns; Stage Door Selfies Might Be A Problem Though

The COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund set up at long-running charitable organization Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS to provide financial relief and services for entertainment professionals impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and work shutdown has received a boost from some of the sector's most successful producers.

It’s been nearly two weeks since Broadway went dark due to New York state’s social distancing measures amid the Coronavirus. As the Great White Way endures its  longest shutdown in history, Broadway producers are coming together to pledge financial assistance to the Actors Fund and other emergency assistance programs.

The Producers Guild of America has postponed its annual Produced By Conference, originally scheduled for June 6 and 7 in Los Angeles, becoming the latest event to do so amid concerns over the coronavirus outbreak. In a statement, the PGA said it is "built on the notion of bringing people together through film, television and new media.

Georgia's March 24 presidential primaries will be postponed until May because of fears over the new coronavirus, state election officials announced Saturday, a day after Louisiana also pushed back its primaries. In-person early voting, which began statewide March 2, will be halted and the election will be moved to May 19, when Georgia's other 2020 primary elections are being held, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement Saturday.

Telecharge, the service that bills itself as the official ticketing site for Broadway and Off-Broadway, will automatically refund Broadway tickets purchased for performances between today and April 12. The tickets will be refunded back to purchasers’ credit cards.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered all Broadway theaters to shut their doors on Thursday amid ongoing coronavirus concerns. Cuomo banned gatherings of 500 or more in the city, effectively forcing the hand of Broadway producers who had previously said that Broadway would be “open for business” unless advised otherwise by the government.
