The most unpredictable category at the 2022 Oscars seems to be Best Actress and the latest predictions have taken a surprising turn.
The five actresses up for the award this year are The Eyes of Tammy Faye‘s Jessica Chastain, The Lost Daughter‘s Olivia Colman, Parallel Mothers‘ Penelope Cruz, Being the Ricardos‘ Nicole Kidman, and Spencer‘s Kristen Stewart.
When awards season began last year, it seemed like Kristen was the one to beat. After the Golden Globe for Best Actress – Drama went to Nicole and Kristen was snubbed by both the SAG Awards and the BAFTAs, she was no longer the frontrunner.
The SAG Award and the Critics Choice Award went to Jessica, which then put her in frontrunner status for the Oscar. Now, major outlets are predicting someone else is going to win.

Both Variety and Deadline‘s awards experts are predicting that Penelope is going to win for Parallel Mothers! THR‘s awards experts still think Jessica will win, but they put Penelope in the “should win” section.
Penelope, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008, missed out on Golden Globe, SAG, Critics Choice and BAFTA nominations for Parallel Mothers.
“A win for her would be unprecedented for a leading actor — but this year, where stats continue to crash and burn, it makes perfect sense,” Variety reported.
Deadline wrote, “This race could easily go one of five ways, but I am guessing the growing international vote in the Academy may favor Cruz.”

Last year’s Academy Awards was scaled-back and while the pandemic isn’t over yet, you wouldn’t know it from how this year’s Oscars ceremony was put together along with serving alcohol to maskless celebrities which might have been a poor choice in the wake of the BAFTAs turning into a super-spreader event. Then again, COVID-19 won’t likely end up being the most talked-about aspect of the awards.

Its tight, ruched zip bodice exploded into drop waist and frothing huge train, successfully bagging her the most fashion forward look of the night.
