Getting art-house audiences to return to cinemas has been challenging as COVID-19 variants have swept the country, and now the question is whether the city that makes movies has enough theaters to show all kinds of titles — not just blockbusters.For moviegoers on the west side of Los Angeles, there was something special about the Landmark Pico, whose 12 screens programmed a wide variety of mostly independent and foreign films, along with industry screenings and panels.“Around the country, including in Los Angeles, there are just fewer theaters and fewer screens than there were before the pandemic,” says Jasper Basch, IFC Films and IFC Midnight head of theatrical distribution.

Ariel Winter has ditched her home in Los Angeles after years of living in the big city, and she’s finally revealing why she decided to make the move!
In a new chat with Modern Family on-screen momma Julie Bowen on her podcast Quitters (co-hosted by Chad Sanders), the actress revealed what she hated most about the City of Angels. The 24-year-old, who grew up in the public eye while starring in the ABC sitcom, explained:

It wasn’t just that her personal space was always being “invaded,” but she also disliked the lack of control she had over her life and what others knew about it, she continued:
OK, we know what you’re thinking: how can she complain about not having a “normal life” when she signed up to be a TV star?! It’s definitely a privileged problem to have, but you have to admit, no matter how successful someone is, they shouldn’t have to suffer the constant fear of being “watched” just because their dreams came true!
This desire to live a normal life was Winter’s main reason to move because the Sofia The First star “never really felt like [she] could do” that in LA because of paparazzi and constantly being recognized in public, she added:
As a result of this, her hopes of a normal life always felt impossible, especially because her every move was often dissected online, she elaborated:
Interestingly, it took her a long time of hating the SoCal locale before she finally decided to pack her bags and go. The Screen Actors Guild Award winner recalled:

Pat Saperstein Deputy EditorIn another blow to the Los Angeles movie theater landscape, the Landmark Pico cinemas will close at the end of May, the company said.“For months, we’ve worked to extend our tenancy of The Landmark Pico but have been unable reach terms,” said Landmark Theatres’ President Kevin Holloway in a statement. “We send our deepest appreciation to the Pico staff, guests, and the filmmaking community for their support over the years.Holloway also said, “We’re exploring opportunities to expand our Los Angeles footprint, which we hope to be able to share more on soon.”The 15-year-old Landmark Pico in the former Westside Pavilion mall was a popular location for industry screenings and panels.

Earlier this year, the "Modern Family" star and her boyfriend, actor Luke Benward, decided to pack up their bags and leave Tinseltown — and they've not looked back.
